Albino brislenose and bristlenose pleco

Post by squid »

Are the normal bristle nose and albino bristle nose a different variety of pleco? I have a female black one which ive had for a few years now its about 4-5 inches and i was able to get a male partner for her at the same size, i also have some albino one but they are only 3 inchers, i thought they were a different variety, but i saw aome albino bristlenose at the place where i got the male and they were also huge, and was told the albinos and the normal ones are same variety and they'll interbreed?

I think basically the answer is most, if not all, of them are probably *mongrels* - result of possible cross-breeding (man-made or in the wild) and maybe hybridization also. Are the commercially (LFS, pet shop, etc.) available Bristlenoses / Bushynoses all the same thing? More or less. But without DNA analysis it can't be proven. But the different color and fin and size varieties can be bred to one another and produce fertile offspring. Confusing?
