Egg Help please
I have had several spawns of my P. aurianticus "Xantho" plecos, but the eggs always look like this (see pic i hope i attached correctly) and the male expels them from the cave. I try and incubate them, but the clear-ish ones become opaque in just a day or two, and then they all fungus. I assume these are infertile, but could there be another problem like water condition or diet ? Any advice...? I would really like some fry...!
Re: Egg Help please
The eggs have not been fertilized that's why they get like that. I had the same issue until I swapped out one of the parents and finally got wigglers.

It could just be a matter of time until he get's it right. Maybe you just need some more time to let him practice.
Also you may be doing something wrong in your tank. Maybe to much current, maybe the fish is to scared to fertilize the eggs. Do you shine a light often in the cave? Maybe you need to alter a little to your water parameters.
Don't immediately blame the fish, maybe it's something you are doing wrong ;)

Re: Egg Help please
Good point. Could be current, or cave shape. The flashlight is also a possible problem....
Thanks....I have thought of many other things i could be doing wrong as well.

Once you have a good breeding pair of fish, which is the most important thing, never give up on finding the perfect conditions for a good spawn ;)Andrewjw wrote:Good point. Could be current, or cave shape. The flashlight is also a possible problem....

It is hardly ever the fault of the fish for not getting a good spawn.
I wish you good luck, you'll find out what you need to do
