L200?

Post by ericthealexander »

Hello everyone! I have a dilemma. A czech breeder is selling L200 as Chaetostomus / sp. . To whom is he referring, Baryancistrus demantoides with max size of 150mm or Hemiancistrus subviridis with max size over 200mm. How will i know without seeing the beauties, which one i bought? I have seen that there are breeding reports of Hemiancistrus subviridis but not of Baryancistrus demantoides, why is that? Sorry for all the questions and thank you for your future answers. A nice day to you all!

It's more likely Hamiancistrus subviridis.

There are no reports of Baryancistrus Demantoides breedings. Still it could be possible. Not everyone will repoort his breedings.

If the breeder can't even identify them right, I would have my doubts about him and consider a different source - especially if you buy before you can see them.

Back in the day, L200 was originally labelled as Chaetostoma sp. Exporters tend to know the difference these, so I would bet on . But I would ask for a picture of the actual fish if you are buying a number of them.

At what size does Hemiancistrus subviridis become mature?

Most plecos take around 2 years to get mature. Some species might take longer. I have no experience with L200 but my guess would be around 13cm+ SL. A report I found stated 15cm female and 18cm male (total length).
