I don't know. What do you "think" it is? :-)

Not L397. L002 seems like a reasonable guess, but indeed it's just a guess.

First the color seems off for L397; this looks very yellow (I realize that color can be deceptive in photographs, but you can be your own judge viewing the fish in person). Second, based on the size of your fingers in the photo, I'm guessing this fish is about 3.5 cm, not counting tail. That matters because of course color and color pattern varies with age and size. If yours is about that size, that's the same size as my own L397, and they look nothing like this in color or color pattern. At that size, the pale stripes seem too narrow and too numerous, and they appear to lack the faint extra-light boundary lines that separate the orange/red from the black stripes. Finally, the narrow stripes behind the eye appear to extend too far back to be L397.

Of course, I could be wrong, especially if I'm underestimating size.

Good luck, Eric

These are closer to about 4 inches long (10 cm). He was being silly and curling his tail away from the camera (which is why the caudal fin is completely white from the light - but none of it hits his face).

Does the 10cm include the tail? No matter, with or without the tail, that's much bigger than I expected. And if the fish is larger than I expected and yet it still looks like this, then it just reinforces to me that it's not L397.

Do you have any collection locality information?

P.S., also comes to mind for the yellow color, but again, like , the striping behind the eye doesn't quite look correct to me.

Hopefully someone with first-hand experience will reply. :-)
