There are some plecos that prefer cooler water which could be compatible with goldfish. Generally they are quite large fish and need excellent water quality and a lot of space. How big is the tank (pond?)

Agree with Mol_PMB. The bigger issue you run into is that the true cool-water plecos tend to require high oxygen and very good water quality. This is problematic because many people like goldfish because they are good at tolerating poor water quality and extended periods of low oxygen.

I have seen people keep in ponds with goldfish. These are not particularly "coolwater" plecos per se, but they are pretty tough and tolerate wide fluctuations in water quality. But they also grow to beast size, so if your tank/pond is not very big, I would not recommend them.

Cheers, Eric

Basically - if you keep the goldfish as they should be kept, that is in a large tank, or pond, with filtration and regular water changes, a lot is possible.

But if you want to keep goldfish because they are so tolerant towards bad keeping, nothing is possible. Other fish would die under such circumstances

My tank water temperature is 26_27(celcius) so its good for plecoes . But my question is about agression because some plecoes are sucking goldfish body mucus and thats dangerous for goldfish .

Friend _of_ fish,

For goldfish, I believe the picture you shared is inaccurate. I looked on several reputable websites and they all put "ideal temperature" for goldfish around 65-72F.

Again, goldfish are remarkably sturdy and can tolerate some poor water conditions, but it's not without a price - they will live shorter lives or be less vital than their well cared for counterparts kept at ideal conditions.

To answer your specific question, no I would not keep a magnum or lizard pleco in a goldfish tank. The plecos will have different water preferences.

Cheers, Eric
