Hi anchorist,

Your fish are the albino form of .

Although albinism can theoretically develop in any species by genetic mutation, I have never seen any albino corys except C. aeneus and ; these look different from each other and what you have resembles aeneus. Also, albino exist, but they also look different from your fish.

You can find some more info on this here: Do I have all 1 species of albino cory?.

Actually, now that I read that thread, I discovered that there are several other cory species that have produced albino mutations in the past, in addition to the three I listed above. None-the-less, I'd say yours look like .

Cheers, Eric

Hi Eric
Thanks for the reply. I read the topic. I saw the corydoras rabauti albino form picture cat-elog content. Different types my fish and rabauti but look like much from rabauti. Your idea ?

Hi Serkan,

It's true that the photo of an albino rabouti looks about the same as your fish, but I still doubt yours is rabouti. Although the particular types of fish for sale in stores around the world vary from country to country, I just don't see a lot of people owning albino rabouti, but I do see a lot of people with albino aeneus.

Aeneus are very easy to breed, very inexpensive, and very available for sale. So just from a perspective of, "what are the odds that you have rabouti instead of aeneus?," I'd be inclined to presume the odds are low and therefore you probably have albino aeneus.

Cheers, Eric

In my opinion the fish in the picture are albino C. zygatus, most if not all albino fish will show the type colour pattern as in the effect of brushed velvet.
I can clearly see all the pattern characters of C. zygatus in these fish.

Okay, thanks Ian. I'll take your word for it. My eyes aren't picking up the subtleties, and to me they look no different than my albino aeneus. But then again, I didn't even know there were albino zygatus running around in the aquarium trade. :-)

It seems appropriate to link this thread back to some past threads (besides the one cited above) which discuss the issue of albinism in corys:
