Couple of Questions about Pseudopimelodus Bufonius

Post by jowens »

I have a 5" giant bumblebee cat that I am very fond of. I just have a couple of questions for those familiar with this fish.

1. Is it normal for it to shed some small strands of slime coat (like a sorubim lima might)?

2. How often should I feed this fish as it becomes an adult?

Thanks for your attention.

1) Yes. However, if you notice that the shedding becomes very frequent you will need to check your water quality.

2) What are you feeding it? Most gulper predators like this will be happy with one meal every 2-3 days once they are adults.

Thanks for the reply Shane.

I had never noticed the shedding until he was moved from one tank to another. I will definitely keep my eye on it. As for the feeding, I feed it FD krill and sinking pellets, usually every other day. I didn't know if I have been over doing it, as its growth rate has been pretty impressive.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. The shed was likely triggered by the stress of the move, but that is ok. When they are healthy they grow quite fast!
