Synodontis notatus temperature

Post by BullFishkeeping »

Hello,

I am looking to add a couple of bichir to my tank, with the current stocking being a , a , two , and a single . The tank is currently kept at 76F, but bichir prefer it warming, and I would like to raise the temperature to 80F.

I notice that the notatus prefer a temp of around 78F as listed on their sheet here and on other sources. Is it possible for this species to live in 80F long term? If this will cause any stress to the fish, I do not wish to raise the temperature.

I haven't kept S. notatus but most aquarium kept Synos can live in a range of temperature. And 2 degrees doesn't seem like a wide temperature gap. But I do know that when you force a fish to live at a higher temp. then it's 'comfortable' living at, there is a good chance you will be shortening its lifespan.

My 6-foot tank contains various Synodontis, including an adult S. notatus, typically varies from ~20C to ~27C with the seasons (average is ~22C outside extremes). Like all my indoor tanks, it only gets a heater added if we have a really chilly spell.
