Black Lancer catfish captive breed?!!

Post by Fishybotany »

The supplier, based in Singapore, for my LFS, has told them that he got his Black Lancer from a captive breed supplier. Since I cant pry any further details from the lfs, I was wondering if you fellow catfish nerds have heard anything about such a thing happening.

I've not heard of this, it's possible. Other similar species are captive bred, but never this one...

A recent book purchase I made (World Fresh Water Fish-- Pisces Publishers Co.) shows an image of an albino Black Lancer --even giving the fish a separate entry in the book. Someone must be breeding them, but I would guess they are being produced on fish farms in outdoor ponds.

Can you post a link or the ISBN number for this book? I had a good look for it and can't find it.

Cheers,

The book is in Korean. The Korean title is 세계 담수어 2900. It is a translation of a Japanese book with the English title The Picture Book of Aquarium Fish and Water Plants 2700. The Korean version added 200 domestic fish, plants, and aquatic inverts.

The ISBN number on the inside of my book is 978-89-969204-0-3

An albino lancer would be pretty neat.
I hope they're being captive bred, since its possible

The link below shows the image of the Albino Black Lancer. The photo the website is using is the same one that appears in the book I mentioned earlier.

The Chinese text accompanying that photo says that albino black lancers are very rare (非常罕见). It appears that the albino individual was wild-caught (to my knowledge, all black lancers are still wild caught).
