Middle of the road for me- I know Richard, Sid etc. love them but for me they're at the lower end of "desirable" in the mochokids- quite pretty (but no more so than other Tang synos), reach a decent but not unmanageable size, but just too quarrelsome, with a ridiculous price tag- I just don't understand the hype of this fish. OK, I get that "rare or hard to catch" equals expensive, but I don't understand why so many people want it- if it was common as muck it would be regarded as less desirable than other similar, smaller, more placid species.

If it was a car it would be a Subaru Impreza or similar- OK-looking but overpriced and unreliable.

Being a cichlidkeeper, I think i can stand some agression in my fish. However, having had Sids Synodontis over to stay for a while last summer (S granulosa and S mulitpunctatus) I was, really sick with their agression

My cichlids are big and tough, while the synodontus were just plain mean

I don't think I'll ever keep Synodontus again - even if I would keep non-American fishes, I still would refrain from them

Just like you can't lump all genera/species of cichlids into the same behaviour, you shouldn't judge Synos by the way S. granulosus are...

Soz, I'll have to sit on the fence with this one . I've never kept lake fish.
Its a smart looking fish though, with contrasting sporty aerofoils, errrm I mean finnage.

Bas, the other ones were Synodontis njassae.......and those are very docile.

The Granny is ofcourse subzero in the same vein that the Bugatti Veyron is subzero.

we're not just talking epic purple stuff here, but frankly, when the Clog tags of the granny turn up, the text should be in orange.

The Veyron is a good comparison or the Ferrari FXX as modern cars go but i'm tempted to say more like a DB5 or Dino.....mmmm yeah

I have a feeling this would all make more sense to me if I knew what this TV show was about and who these people are. I looked at the website and it seems to be about sports cars. Jools likes fast cars. If it can't hold 4-6 people plus collecting gear; cross rivers, climb mountains, and double as a sleeping quarters in a storm it is a toy.

you're spot on!
I do watch the show, but that's because the typical British humor is going rampant in it and i usually roll on the floor laughing in about 10 minutes

i don't have a big car, only a small and quite rickety one; but it's primarly used to transport live fish and when there's snow and ice everywhere and my favorite form of transport (chopper) is too dangerous

but it's very very European. and also very British.
if it wasn't for a life long addiction with things Monty Python and similar stuff (something Marc rubbed off on me, blame him!) I wouldn't get it at all, not being British

I like Monty Python, and top gear - even though I think cars are basically boring. Too bad the really insane stuff, like playing darts with 3 cars each, are now really a thing of the past

Its available on DVD. A make-believe town, with lots of insane/ zany characters. Very dark humour at times, but very British.

I say very cool! Why do i say this? Well first off on my lfs's stock list they are listed as "very cool catfish" and they have a quirky and Very ADHDish personality which makes for some interesting situations! Great fish but not quite sub-zero even if I keep them!
