Bristlenose ?

Hi...I just recently purchased a bunch of "bristlenoses" now, I can't see any bristles on any of em, unless they are too young to tell. They are all about 1" and I cannot get a good pic. Do these guys have an L number, or name other than just "bristlenose".


any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

They are to young to have bristles, will appear soon though. I have some that are L-181 but there are lot's of numbers related to them.

Thanks...can you by chance give an estimate on their age? Or when I should start seeing some bristles?

You should see them from around 3-4 cm (1,5-2 inches approx). If they are breed in a tank, you can easily risk that they are all males or females

They grow pretty fast when not to many in a tank.

Yep, definately young bristlies you've got there. They are identical to what mine looked like when I first got them. Mine are now about 2 and 3 inches each. The male is starting to get some noticible bristles going now, and it's fun to watch them develope. The smaller female has very little in the way of bristles. The females usualy have much less in the way of bristles, and in some cases none at all.

Good luck, they are a great cat, and a very hardy, and peacefull fish to keep.

Though, it may not make sense, the more hiding spots you provide for these guys, the more you will see them. It's a security thing They will feel more secure comming out in daylight if they know they have quick and easy access to hiding spots. I have all kinds of places for mine to hide, and I see them all the time

ah, good to know. Once these guys are out of the quarentine tank, I'll make sure they have lots of hiding spots.
