Pterocryptis gangelica???

Came in as Pterocryptis gangelica. Collected from the Bhutan region. I am not sure what features I should be focusing on while taking pics. Ask away if more are needed.

The anal fin, for one. I count about 67 rays, which is about right for this species.

Isn't it illegal to fish in Bhutan?

Sorry. I meant near the Bhutan region (Jalpaiguri District, West Bengal). I will try taking better pics soon to confirm the ID and for the Cat-Elog as well.

Surprisingly,they are all over the place (even in daytime) and not hidden as I assumed they would be. Eating sinking pellets with gusto.

Externally, there is very little to distinguish among the different Pterocryptis species. Only the anal-fin ray counts are useful in this regard.

Alright. I tried zooming in the uncompressed image and counting. Blurred vision and teary eyes are the only outcomes. I will take more pics focussing on the anal fin soon.

As luck would have it, one specimen managed to squeeze out through a small gap through which the HOB works. Didn't look like he was going to make it so put him out of misery and into formalin. Quite sad as there was a ton of interaction between the two specimens.

Showing fairly decent growth this specimen. Quite a fun fish to keep.
