Just picked these up yesterday. Only small - max 5cm TL.

I'm not sure yet Marc. They are only smallish. I don't think they are insignis though. The true insignis is more like a fisheri type. Time may tell.

I tried, but it's pretty hard. They don't like to be looked at by a flashlight. I need some more time here.

my 2 specimens in the small tank have no food competitors (so no problems) and the 2 in the large tank were even capable of getting food when the tank still included my larger woodcats + Triportheus + Markiana. I wouldn't worry a bit!

Well, that's reassuring. I hope they will get a little bolder when feeding. Tomorrow the first babyguppies will be added to the tank.

I am loving this thread, but after 80 plus pages it is getting hard to use as a reference (and there is a lot of good information). Can we start splitting it when a new species is brought up?

maybe a split is in oder; we might want to start a threat like "All things Ageneiosus", "Tatia's and other small Auchenipterids", "Aucxhenipterid taxonomy topic", "keeping Driftwood cats" etc

then you have your split, but it's clear where people want to search

someone wanting to know anything about Centromochlus perugiae knows it's in the "tatia et al" topic, while the people interested into new unnamed species can do their picture and scientific paper things elsewhere

etc etc

I like Sid's idea, but there is also some momentum to leave it as one big thread. It is really up to those contributing to it. I was just thinking about making the information more accesible. Last thinng I want to do is take the energy out of this discussion.

Yeah. But the latter is much cheaper and easier to obtain. One shouldn't keep them though, that's for sure. Not an aquariumfish at all.

After a week or so being pretty nervous about the atronasus' eating enough I've noticed that they do.
They like frozen artemia and white mosq.larvae in particular.
I was and still am a little concerned about other tankinhabitants like Tatia intermedia and Parodon affinis being glutons and gobbling up al the food that drifts in the current before the dolphins can get it.
It's not the cheekyist catfish around. They don't seem to be bottomfeeders.

I'm not keeping any Auchenipterids yet and I'm completely new with them, and very interested.

I was wondering wich of the smaller Auchenipterids ( max 15cm ) are ( relative) active during the day ?

it's sort of THE hallmark of this specific family that they are noctural and extremely shy

the few exceptions that swim about in daylight are the hard ones to keep; we're talking some larger Ageneiosus, Auchenipterus spp and perhaps Centromochlus heckeli

none of those is easy to keep, some are very very hard to keep.

if you want a day active catfish, Auchenipteridae isn't the family to find em

the ones I mentioned above are a challenge even for very experienced catfish keepers.
