I noticed this morning that one of my albino cories is missing her tail! She's moving around, albeit awkwardly. There does not appear to be any sign of fin rot or disease and there is no other color at the break line to indicate a wound of any kind-- it's like it was just perfectly removed at the base of her body. It seems like her top fin may be a little shredded but it's hard to tell since she's kind of curled up. She is about 6 months old and has always been small, even for a cory, and is in a 3 gallon tank with 1 other albino cory and a male betta. The male betta is new (about 2 weeks) but I have never seen him bother either of the cories.
I'm not sure what to do. I do not have another tank I could put her in and do not have the space to get one. There are plenty of hiding places in the tank but she hasn't really been hiding at all. I'm worried she won't be able to propel herself up to the surface for air. (Although the tank is filtered.)
Water tests indicate all levels are fine, including ammonia. The tank itself is about 7 months old.
Do cories ever lose their tails or do I have a bully in my tank? Any chance that she can survive and possibly regenerate her tail?
Any advice you have would be very appreciated.
