Unidentified rubber lip pleco

Anyone have any idea what type of rubber lip this is. I bought him at lfs as a Domino Rubber Lip. He is amazing, very active and a great personality but I can't find a single matching reference or photo anywhere....

I found a list with a 'domino' listed as Chaetostoma sp(l455).

Not sure how you tell the difference between L457 and L-welse L455. They look pretty similar to me.

I'm confused - isn't the same fish(picture) usedon both sites for both L numbers??? - the photo from sandor with the sadlle nose corys in the photo

Yes, we have a picture used on all three numbers. It´s not the one from Sandor, but from Volker D.
I am sure they all are the same species and only varieties in colour.

edit: I just understood the point: Your pictures from Sandor are L 457 and ours are L 455. I am pretty sure that L 455 is the one who was known as Cchaetostoma. sp. "Tiger" before, so it should be this number. I´ll check later with the DATZ.

What sort of lfs was it - chain or specialist? How many did they have? Was it expensive? (just trying to guage potential future availability in the UK

Hi,

I got my individuals of this Chaetostoma species when they did not yet have an L-Number.
My assignment of my fishes to this specific L-Number was done based on the trivial name they had initially. I also checked back with Ingo Seidel which (original) trivial name was supposed to be which L-Number.

That said, it is my opinion that these three L-Numbers represent the same species, and not even regional varieties of a single species.
Reason for this opinion is that I also bought some representatives of the other L-Numbers (so I have L 455, L 456 and L 457). But while they could be told apart initially by some characteristics in coloration, this was not possible anymore after a short time of care in the aquarium (say 2 weeks).
They are in fact quite variable both dependent on their size and their mood, and I have no way to tell which of my individuals originally corresponded to which L-Number anymore (though I did keep them separated, of course).

What a great forum. Thanks to all and I'm impressed with your expertise. My fish looks exactly like the 2nd photo from the left on the L 457 link that was provided! Thanks for the contributions. Anyone who has photos of this fish I would love to see them

I purchased this fish from a lfs that focuses on freshwater. They are a great specialty store in North Dallas named "The Fish Gallery". They always list new arrivals online and they may ship to reasonable locations (not sure). I thought it was expensive at $100.00. But I knew it was a one time find. They have since had only 2 others in stock. It seems very hardy, well adapted to captivity and tough enough to hold its own with other tank mates.

I must admit....it's a favorite of mine.

Haha that was my reaction to the photo too - great minds think alike!
As it turns out L-457 is presently available from a wholeseller here in Sweden so they may be available in the UK too. Sadly, at £51/ea they're outside my pricerange.

What!!! ...ahhh, huh..blasphemy!!! about the synos that is...it is a great looking Chaetostoma though.
