What was your first catfish and year?

Corydoras aeneus. 1998. I bought them as small fish and they grew to an enormous size and spawned all the time. (my other "first fish" were tiger barbs and bala sharks)

Hi!!

My first catfish cam with my first tank in 1995.
It was an Ancistrus sp along with 4 Corydoras araguaiensis
a year and so later I had my first catfish spawn with a spawn from my Ancistrus sp!!

Mate if it helps the first catfish I actually paid money for was 4 Corydoras aeneus. I even went all out and bought some albino ones (3 maybe) about a year after I got the first 4. So you were sort of right for my case.

my first catfishes were a pair of common Ancistrus (Yes, they DID spawn..).
Back in 1984 or 85, I was 4 or 5 years old; nobody remembers exactly when I got my first aquarium, just that it was before I went to school.

1970 Cory Aeneus x2. Had them for 5 years and 2 long distance moves.
My folks didn't think they would make the first move from Virginia to upstate New York. They never thought they'd live 2 years and make the second move to New Jersey.

Good thread. I'm not certain about the year, but it was probably around 1981 or 82. My recollection of what was indeed my first catfish is a little unclear, but it was either Corydoras julii or, as I'm now finding out after all these years, Corydoras trilineatus. Alternatively, it could have been a Ameiurus nebulosus that I caught in a stream off of a local lake. I don't exactly remember which came first.
