Hello
Can anyone assist me in helping to identify my catfish I inherited. I believe it to be a Syno Multi, but when I look at other sires to confirm this there appears to be quite a difference in the markings.

Currently waiting to be placed into a 200L tank. What other mates of similar family or types of fish (apart from chiclids) would be recommended ?

I take it then the care of these i.e Ph/Temp etc are the same for that as the syno multi? How big should I expect it to grow? What other types of cat fish can (if any) can I mix it with?

Be more patient, people aren't always on...

This is a really hardy fish so I wouldn't worry about conditions too much. Care is similar to Synodontis decora.

It's hard to say what conditions it requires, how it will behave, and how big it will grow etc, because we don't know what it is. This is one of the problems with hybrids, along with the inhumane practices used to produce them, of course.

It certainly has Synodontis decora in it, so it's probably best to just treat it as this species. Why not keep detailed notes on behaviour, growth rate and health yourself, and then you can add notes to cat-elog for this "species". That would be really helpful for future users.

it certainly has decora in the mix somewhere which is a big fish but we're not sure what the "other half" is so maximum size isn't certain. That said i've seen these 7" SL ie body length without the tail.

Yhe previous posts are correct in that it would be better to treat this as a decora rather than a tanganyikan species

I think the ID and the care advice are spot on.

As for the shame, there is none in inheriting such a fish or rescuing. It's a shame they are produced. If you participated and/or supported this practice, you'd be attacked by some members on this forum. But once the fish exists, it needs the care and love as any other, IMO.

I am not sure on the stance of the majority and of the leaders of this forum on the buying hybrids knowing full well it is a hybrid. They may disapprove if this is seen as supporting the practice... or may not. If it was "bad", it'd be a "smaller misdemeanor", I am guessing But, again, it is irrelevant to your case.
