Last nite we had the majordomo of all thunder storms .at 1030pm three bolts of lightning and thunder that shook the house. at mid nite I went to the porch were my tanks are to smoke my pipe .I stepped into water. Saturday I cleaned a 55gal bow front tank and put in clean sand and plants and left the tank to cure using the old filter .All I can guess is that the concussion from the close lightning and thunder caused the tank seal to separate OWELL start from scratch
Really I was working a temp job at a window and glass co. and built the tank for a customer,I left that job and went back to see the guys about 6mos.later and the tank was still there in the wood box I had built for it.I ask the bossman about it and he told me to get it out of the shop the guy had never come back and the deposit was returned by mail.now I have a great tank.
Building the bow front was my first and took three trys ,one of the oldtimers showed me the trick to bending the glass. The tank is toast. the bottom is cracked form one corner to the other.with all the scratches in the walls it is not worth rebuilding .I have a 40 gal tank to use until I make up my mind about building a larger tank. Victor how are you liking florida weather ,It has not been hot this year.I am happy to see the rains get here. mule
Naively, I think if only the bottom pane is cracked, one can simply silicone another pane under and/or over the cracked pane. Very cheap and easy. It should hold. But in this case, re-seaming would probably also be needed. If it is scratched up badly, perhaps not worth it.
I am sorry you have been bitten by the Florida /Yankee bug.I has not always been that was but with the introduction of our good friends from up north they always want it like it was back home [probably why they left] Owell all you can do is tough it out good luck I look forward to seeing your efforts soon. mule
