Okay before we close this - is the photo you showed us the actual fish in the LFS? If so, I stick by my ID. But if that photo is not of the real fish, but you found it on the internet and it looks the same, then I'd hedge my ID until I can see the real fish. Pardalis has a different shape but juvenile color can look sort of the same.

Hi Eric,
The photo is from the LFS. I will go there in a about two weeks. To me they seems to be very nice. But I don't want a catfish that reaches +20cm, my tank is not that big ;))

What about the orange eyes..? The L329 looks like have dark black-brownish eyes.

Edit: The were imported from Brasil, To bad I don't have information about the catch location.

Regards,
Erik

Hi Erik,

The price difference between pardalis and L329 should be big. If you're lucky, a properly identified L329 should cost at least $20 USD, perhaps 2x-3x that depending on size and health (and that's just a guess -given that I've never seen them in stores, they might go even higher if the LFS intentionally ordered it). By contrast, the pardalis at same size really shouldn't cost more than $5-$10.

My advice is get a few photos of actual fish and post here. Sometimes the photos from LFS are provided by the wholesaler and they don't accurately represent the fish you get.

Good luck. The Panaqolus would be a real gem.

Cheers, Eric

Hi

thats L 351, a lovely Panaqolus.
L. pardalis is completely different, a more bulky body, no caudal filaments, bigger eyes, more dorsal rays, less pointed head and a different pattern as well.

Yes, the two species are easy to tell apart. The concern now is whether the photo above is of the actual fish in the store, or a "stock photo" provided to or by the LFS.

That is true Eric. But with the information you all gave to me I am able to see idientify the fish at the store. If the fish is actual like the first post, I am sure it is the L351. Otherwise it could(!) be the L329.
Thank you all for this information.
