C. panda fungus/fin rot/something else?(Flukes)

Post by Melander »

Hi,

I have a group of four C. panda in a tank that seems to be infested with some sort growths, mainly on their caudal and pelvic fins but it also seems to affect all the other fins and occasionally the barbels. Please see pictures below.

The male has been in the tank for months, the three females were moved from a larger tank a couple of weeks ago from a larger group to breed with this specific male. They spawn every 3-4 days at the moment. A new piece of java moss and a water lillie was introduced also a couple of weeks ago. There is a possibility that they were overfed over Christmas when i was on holidays but I did not see any traces of this. I thought that they would need to be stressed or damaged for something like this to happened, could the move from the larger tank and group have caused this?

There is also a fry box with plenty of eggs floating in the same tank, should these be removed prior to medicating the fish, would moving them to another tank risk spreading the disease?

My thought was that it's fungal/fin rot but I would really appreciated your advice on what it is and how to treat them.

Readings:
Temperature: max 23.5
pH. 7.5
Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 0
Nitrite: 0

Water change frequency: 20% twice/week

Tank set up
Size: 54 litre, 60 x 30 x 30cm
Substrate: fine sand
Filtration: 1 internal power filter, 1 air driven sponge filter
Furnishings 1 piece of bogwood, java ferna, java moss and a water lilie
Other tank mates: none

How long has it been set-up? around 6 months, although the filters were taken from other tanks and already mature.

Action taken: none

Medications used: none

Many thanks in advance,

A worried fishkeeper (Melander)

I should also say that i believe the male was wild caught which is why i want it to breed without any other of my older males around.

It was bought in November 2012 and I have not seen this until now. It is possible that i have failed to spot it before if it was at an earlier stage.

It looks like flukes (flat worms). We had a group of Corydoras spilurus with flukes and I treated them with Kusuri Wormer Plus, the parasites disappeared.

That has to be it, looks exactly the same.

Many thanks Rita and complements to your pictures b.t.w!

I will post an update after the treatment.

Kusuri Wormer Plus worked like a charm.

Within one day of the treatment there was no sign of flukes.

Thanks again,
