Scientific Name Irvineia voltae  Trewavas, 1943
Common Name
Type Locality Above the Senchi Rapids, Volta River, Ghana.
Etymology Referring to the type locality of the species, the Volta River.

Identification Characterized by a dorsal rayed fin with a spine and 6 rays, adipose fin present, pectoral fin with a spine, four pairs of barbels, pointed mouth laterally and wide dorsally.

Preserved specimens exhibit flanks and belly pale and silvery, head and back darker, pectoral, dorsal and caudal fins faintly speckled or dusky, anal and pelvic fins clear.
