Breeding | |||||||
Behaviour | Not observed. Eggs were found attached to spawning mops and also drifting free over the sandy substrate. The eggs looked fungused, but hatched successfully. Eight more eggs were laid a few days later, and then 65 eggs were laid four days after that. A third spawn, one week later, produced 76 eggs, of which 20 appeared to be unfertilized. They did not fungus, but they looked milky white instead of translucent. Over the next few weeks, the fish spawned repeatedly, about once or twice per week. Egg counts were 75 one week, then 135 after a long holiday weekend, with half the eggs being conspicuously older than other eggs, which were freshly laid.
Eggs | There were 5 white eggs laid which were 3.0mm in diameter.
Time to hatch | 3 days Number: 1 Free swimming: 4 days
Segregation | The only live fry discovered was left with parents for five days, then transferred to a 2 gal grow-out tank with some other (different) cory fry. On the second and third spawns, the eggs were removed from spawning mops and placed in a separate container to hatch.

Fry and juvenile feeding | For first five days (while with parents), no special foods were provided (I didn't know it had hatched). After that, fry fed a finely pulverized mixture of various dry foods (flake foods, NLS Spectrum Thera A+ pellets, freeze-dried Tubifex worms, NLS algae pellets).
