Re: Adding more corydoras

Your tank is roughly 68 gallons. I do not think many of us would consider a 68 gallon tank with 24 Corydoras, 3 loaches, an SAE, and 12 small tetras remotely over stocked. My only suggestion would be to up your water changes to 40% for 2-3 weeks after adding the new fish. This will allow your filtra...

Re: Super red, calico, and clown? Confirmation/information please!

Fishes 1-3 are man made morphs of the common Ancistrus. They are all the same species and will bred. 1 and 2 might be females while 3 might be male. Photos 4 and 5 are of Panaqolus maccus. It is too small to sex for certain, but is most likely a female.

Re: Fishes near Iquitos

.From there I found photos of what seems to be b. villosus they call "jumbo novia" and b. raninus called "bambi novia tuxedo" Not sure if "novia" is a generic name of batrochoglanis or just catfish in general? Also seen were a few species of pseudopimelodus or possibly...

Re: Corydoras Pygmaeus hiding

First of all check for any mechanical issues. A noisy filter impeller, broken heater, lighting issues (brightness and or photoperiod) etc. Mechanical issues like these can cause fish to change their behavior. Second, fish can be strange. I have a group of C. weitzmani that for six months I only saw ...

Re: Any plecos I could keep a small group of in a 15 gallon aquarium?

Just a few other suggestions. If the 15 gallon will be a species tank you can focus on spp that either need special conditions or do not compete well in community set ups. Pretty much any species of hypoptopomatinae in a group would make for a fun tank. Any of the smaller spp of Chaetostoma would be...

"For the people who actually went to collect plecos what was your first experience like?" Driving two hours back to Caracas covered in mud with only one shoe (the other having been sacrificed so I could escape sinking in the mud) and not a single fish to show for my efforts. I got a bit be...

Re: Max temp for Corydoras habrosus

Here is some more specific information from one of my collection logs. Note the temp! Rio Santo Domingo, Cojedes State 7 April 2001 In its lower course the Santo Domingo is called a Rio while the upper portion is reffered to as Cano Santo Domingo. The exact collecting location was on the dirt road t...

Re: Max temp for Corydoras habrosus

Temp really is not an issue as the ranges of these two spp are very close. They are in the same drainage in fact, and in the dry season, C. habrosus is exposed to far higher temps than L 471 could ever tolerate. What separates them in nature is their biotope. C. habrosus is found in white water syst...

Re: Should I just go with no substrate?

I am a big fan of natural tanks, but a specific breeding set up may not always need to replicate the natural habitat. I have bred several loricariid species in "bare bottom" set ups. My own preference is to cut slate roofing tiles and line the bottom of the tank. This creates a more natura...

Re: ID this catfish - Trichomycterus ??

I think the bigger issue, and I should have called more attention to it above, is that there only three (maybe four) described spp from the largest drainage in Colombia. I think it was well worth looking at the described spp, but I doubted a match (unless we got very lucky). Not enough work has been...
