Yep, and if they are sterbai, they will also release poison into the mouth making sure they both die if they haven't arleady. (Some corydoras release poison when threatened). Wikipedia suggests they eat anything they can fit in their mouth.

Yea, i was resorted to a few large water changes after the first few died, so not surprised there were no nitrates. The ammonia was probably just detectable because there had been some dead fish in the water.

I have never actually seen them eat snails personally. I have had a similar experience to you, i had a bunch of snail shells appear on the bottom of the tank over a few days to a week. I wondered if it was somethign to do with water quality or smail food source more than anything else.

If you have to use seachems test kits for nitrites and nitrates with prime, doesn't that imply that the seachem test kits are testing for a different chemical than the other test kits?
