It's nearly impossible to tell if this is P. apogon or P. bleekeri without looking at the shape of the toothbands on the upper jaw.

It seems that the sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate (which is also used to discharge dyes) in the water conditioner might be the culprit.

The Code already indicated the corrective action, which is to remove the hyphen. Such corrective actions are to be automatically applied without the need for a publication explicitly stating so.

The Code says you can’t have hyphens in the specific epithet for this case. Article 32.5.2.3 states “In a compound species-group name published as words united by an apostrophe or a hyphen, the words are to be united by removing the mark concerned”.

The first version of the manuscript I reviewed lacked taxonomic conclusions (i.e. had no new species descriptions), so I can’t really answer the question.

But it turns out the nomenclatural act is not registered with ZooBank, so the name is unavailable.
