Re: Wood for tanks?

Does anyone know why Horse-chestnut trees are on the "do not use" list?

Cheers

Re: Wood for tanks?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if wood from Forsythia is fish safe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forsythia)? More of a shrub than a tree, but I've got some lovely pieces I pruned from a massive one outside my house last year.

Cheers

Re: Blackwater stocking advice

Hi guys, Thanks again for all the advice- sorry for the lack of replies, been super busy and doing lots of research. From what I've read on here and found out elsewhere by far the best bet for getting the water chemistry sorted will be from using RO water. Then using a combination of leaf litter, al...

Re: Blackwater stocking advice

Thanks for the comments everyone- some very interesting food for thought! Regarding water chemistry, I've heard peat pellets (regularly replaced) in an external filter can be used to control pH and hardness- is this the case? The sphagnum moss peat substrate was for look more than anything else. Oth...

Blackwater stocking advice

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of finishing off the stand for a new tank, and trying to figure out how to stock it- I was hoping you guys could offer some advice. The tank itself is 48x24x24 (around 400 litres) and I plan on running it as a blackwater setup with low pH and hardness. pH will be main...

tank weight and floor strength

Hi everyone! Ive got a gorgeous 48" x 24" (d) x 30" (h) tank waiting in storage that Ive never had space to fit anywhere. Ive recently moved into a new flat, where there is space but Im worried about the weight of the tank + water. Im in a first floor flat, and part of a terrace. Anyo...

Re: C. apurensis info

Excellent, thanks! Yep, read the article on C. fowleri- one of them would get a wee bit cramped. With this sized tank im guessing it would need to be a species tank?

Thanks

C. apurensis info

Re: Doras punctatus

Awesome, thanks very much! Looks to be pretty similar, and they seem to get to the same size and have the same temperament so I could live with either. On a side note, any idea if theyd be shrimp eaters? Ive got some Ammano shrimp in their intended tank, and dont know if I should move them to anothe...

FAO anyone who has an aquaclear powerhead 301

Hey, I was wondering if anyone who has one of these could tell me what amp fuse they take- got a pair free with a tank I bought recently, but theyve got no plugs with them.

Re: stocking advice

Cheers for the welcome, and the quick reply :D Im getting more and more attatched to the idea of a pack of pictus, so would probably plan the rest of the tank around them. I was originally thinking of a group of panda cories, as theyr pretty easy to get hold of (UK)- would these be ok? If not then I...
