Re: Amblyceps mangois with belly full of eggs

hi Not much information that I can give you; but, I hope this little amount may be of some help. I once, got some Amblyceps foratum to spawn I had eggs but only three hatched, and the fry subsequently died within 24hrs. (so I class this as a failure to spawn) . The tank set up was 12"x10"x...

Re: Asian catfish that can breed in home aquaria?

Check out Shanes World and its reproduction articles. Full of very knowledgeable advice and reports. My advice is to start with relative easily spawned fish from around the world , and observe and learn from those experiences. Gradually your knowledge base will increase over time; but, don't forget ...

They are the common Albino as you suspected

The other form of 'albino cory' that can be found in our LFS have a longer spine to the dorsal fin and are more blue in hue.

Your fish appears to look OK.

If the rapid breathing continues when the fish is 'unaware' that you are observing it, increase the oxygen intake and try treating for gill flukes.

Would love to see the etymology for this one, let's name a catfish from the North with "conspicuously elongated, conical urogenital papilla" after Mike Hardman I'm guessing. Brilliant!

The online sales department said some photos may be outdated, and that they were sure they were A. vespa. I wasn't able to get photos of the stock from the retailer beforehand... We'll know for sure on Tuesday--I'll take some pictures while they're in a specimen container and perhaps we can get a s...

There are other Malapterus 'sp' that look similar to M electricus, like a catchment location or country of export would be a help in narrowing down which species your catfish is.

Re: Ideas wanted for inducing spawning of Erethistes jerdoni?

There isn't a great deal more that I can add to my breeding report in Shane's World. However; I found that conditioning on live foods such as newly hatched brineshrimp, microworm, grindal worm and small daphnids 3X daily as per report, along with good water management is a must. Also, the 'adults' h...

A hard question that can not be answered with any degree of certainty. These catfish eat a variety of things and are an omnivore. From shell fish to seeds and the like. It may well be that as migratory fish their diet may change depending on season and activity. In the dry seasons it can be assumed ...
