Royal Whiptail Breeding

So the other day my Royal whiptail (as it's called in Aus) or Sturisoma barbatum was getting very fat. I was worried she was sick & over eating. Especially when I had a missing Otocinclus!?!? So today I see a body of another Oto, dead!!!!????? :-T I start inspecting the tank as I remove the litt...

Seaweed - Nori rolls for all

So I WAS killing Oto's but in my search for food I found Seaweed. I have been using the sushi wrap you buy from asian stores to make your own sushi & it is a great success!! My pleco jumps ecstatically as it hits the water & swims in any position to get it. The Otocinclus wait until it is fu...

I had a chocolate plec' who used to love swimming from the bottom & spinning at the top, flipping his tail out as he dived back down (big whale style). You could hear him going off in the next room - SLOP!!
But I agree with advice above - Hello :-H

Diatoms???? Ok, so as I got the replacements(which in Sydney are a mid/high priced fish- TY) imported from Chermany  :orcs-cheers: , yesterday. I thought about the amount of excessive algal growth I get in one tank & did a major op roll1 :animals-chickencatch: :chores-laundry: :romance-g...

Yes I agree with MatsP -sausage machine :-J I've seen mine "resting" IN his zucchini at the top of the tank (i don't bother cooking at all anymore, to slow him as much as I can) with a string coasting down from bum to a new coil down below... :YMPARTY: But mine steals fish flake too- so no...

All other readings are normal (except for weekly fluctuations) i.e nitrate's maybe reaching 0.5ppm & nitrite's reaching 0.25 before weekly clean. I try to keep my PH at 6.6. They weren't hungry, none of them died with a depression in the tummy or anything... They all looked fine. I had had the l...

Otocinclus killer

So it appears i'm an Otocinclus killer.... I have no diseases in the tank, nobody else has an issue. My blue rams are healthy so i'm pretty positive nothiing is wrong with the tank, but I keep losing Oto's?? I even had a friend who works in a LFS here today when another body floated & he agreed,...

Re: Bloodworms apparently float (return of the newbie)

Luckily I can get live worms locally & my cats LOVE them. They graze through the gravel for them :) But I have bought the Freeze dried ones you are talking about & they are really difficult to use. I find I have to pre-soak them in BOILING water at least 3-4 times. This washes half the blood...

Yes, My Euptera beats up my Kirbensis (dwarf c******s) & has even eaten a couple of the dying ones.

But he makes himself WELL KNOWN at feeding time. The fact that he hides so much reminds me of a friends pimelodus pictus :foggie:

Re: Antibiotic Use with Cories and a Britlenose Plec

Apistomaster, I had to use antibiotics in one tank, because I determined the organism was living in the tank!!! I kept getting the fish healthy & returning them to the tank, whence they would become diseased again.... So I treated that Fekker with so much amoxocillin (about 1500mg in a 29ltr)tha...

Re: Antibiotic Use with Cories and a Britlenose Plec

My experience with Anitbiotics is that some just DESTROY your biological filter!! Chloramphenicol will knock it but bio filter will recover- Having used this in the form of, Chlorsig eye drops, i've found that a sick fish (normally floating near the surface) can have drops dropped right in it's litt...
