Re: Mystery Pleco

Hi, 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7 are L 66, or at least this is the closest name for them of the ones we use in the hobby. They look a lot like the ones we collected in front of Altamira back in 2014, which are said to origin in released specimens from several locations of the river. 2 is actually L 260 The circ...

Re: Catfish from Rio Nanay, Peru

Hi Karsten,

fish 1 is Auchenipterichthys coracoideus, agree
fish 2 might be Trachelyopterus cf. galeatus
fish 7 made me think of Hassar orestis first
fish 8 is Pterobunocephalus dolichurus, agree
fish 9 is an undescribed Bunocephalus I think
fish 10 is Pterobunocephalus aff. depressus

Triple Crown Convention

Hi there, I know the convention this weekend will not be about catfish, but anyway, is there anybody going? From what I hear it is going to be an amazing meeting with people from all over the US. I'd be happy to meet there and have a glass. https://convention.cichlid.org/?_ga=2.136354608.1037149518....

Re: Hypostomus basilisko ?

Hi, indeed, this is H.basilisko. Normally, at that size they are about two years old, a typical size they have when imported. What makes you think it is between 10 and 15, did it come back from another customer before? They get old, but it is always hard to tell the maximum age, 20 at least, 30 mayb...

Agreed with Viktor, a great species, but nothing for the normal sized tank in the living room.

Re: What is the story behind the albino gold lazer corys seen lately?

Hi,

there is an article about this and the even less known "red albino form" of CW010 in the current issue of the BSSW-Report. Obviosuly, I can not publish it online now, but I will happily do so in a while from now.

Re: Pseudohemiodon in Ecuador

Hi,

it looks very much like what we used to call sp. "Tigre" or "Tiger" so far, the mentioned distribution also matches this species.

It is not common in the hobby, but now and then there are exports.

Re: Pleco type ID by mouth?

Hi, there is no official key to identify a species by looking on a mouth/oral disk. It's all about experience, one day you will have that kind of a feeling that "a mouth" should belong to "a species" or at least a genus. The genus is easy, but the species requires hundreds of hun...

Re: Hypostomus velhomonge, new species... is it L078?

Hi, I think L 78 is the fish mentioned as H. aff. pusarum (fig.10) in the paper. The eye size of H. aff. pusarum matches L 78 better than H. velhomonge does. Plus, in DATZ Rainer mentioned the elongated caudal lobes, which are also present in the specimen of H. aff. pusarum. Obviously they might be ...

Hi,

you got a man made form of P. pardalis, as you already found out. It's sometimes called "chocolate pleco" too.

Hi,

I am not aware of an actually happened crossbred yet, but yes, it can happen.

Do you have lateral pictures? L 7 and L 240 tend to show a stress coloration very quickly, in a white bucket both might look just like the other one.

Hi,

I'd say H. contradens too.
Furthermore I am pretty sure that L 201 and L 471 are representatives of the same species, and yours is none of these two.
