Re: L264 Sultan plec?

These are very voracious eaters IME. Carnivore but very susceptible to bloating with daily protein-based diet. More plant-based sinking tabs is best and less on protein-based food. Fresh prawns can be offered once or twice a month. These are also very aggressive among themselves and others just like...

Re: Feeding snails to plecos

I'm not sure about the L128s but in my many years of keeping Leporacanthicus species, I've never seen them eat snails. I've kept different species of snails with these and they didn't bother them at all. Perhaps because I keep them well fed. I'm also unsure that snails are staple food source of thes...

Re: Plec's for Large Cichlid Tank?

Why Scobys? Though large, I thought they weren't as aggressive/tough as Pseudas. Scobis are very "tough", hardy, and aggressive IME. Especially, once they reach sub-adult size and age. A six-foot long tank would be just enough for a pair IMO. Perhaps they are often overlooked for their &q...

Re: L091 in hiding for 6+ months

These are on the carnivorous side and have never touched fresh vegetables that I have offered. The closest "greens" they accept are algae wafers and Cory Sinking tabs. They do love the occasional fresh prawns too.
Good luck with your beautiful L091!

Re: L091 in hiding for 6+ months

These typically do not keep themselves exposed out during daytime. Turning the lights on certainly wouldn't encourage it to come out furthermore. If you want to get a "view" of him more, try to rearrange the set-up. Eliminate hiding place in the back of the tand and other corners that woul...

Re: sexing pleco l240

Keep feeding them for a couple of months or so. They need to fatten up to ease sexing. Could be skinny females. Odontodes is not a very reliable parameter for sexing these, as both sexes are equally "hairy" IME.

Re: Sex my plex, L091's

It seems you have a pair. Males are typically darker in colouration than females.
How big are these? What type of food are they being offered? Seems like not really big enough to become gravid.

The photos you provided will not make it easier for folks here to help you. You need to place them in a basin and take close-up shots from above to show its overall shape. Furthermore, provide details such as its current size.

Re: Medusa behavior query

Had a pair of these before. Kept them in a 20G Long with sand and lots of wood. Thought they weren't pretty happy with the setup so I transferred them to a 55G with a trio of other plecs and lots of tight places (good for their flat profile) and rocks. Moreover, the tank was in a pretty dark part of...

Re: Back in the game L14

Both are males based on those head shots. Square heads and tapered bodies from head to tail.
Females do get into caves no doubt. Especially if hiding places is scarce. Males also do spend time in the cave of their choice but not all day long. Mine do come out anytime he smells tetra food.

Re: What species of Leporacanthicus?

I have a trio of these (2F & 1M) that I've been keeping for about two years now. At 4 inches, my females have fuller bodies compared to the male's tapered appearance. Moreover, the females tend to be lighter in colouration compared to the male. I also observed these colour difference in my trio ...

Here is a 7-inch male L114. Been keeping him since he was a 1.5-incher. Shoot me cash or trade offers. Willing to trade for Hypans, Peckoltias or Panaqolus. Can be picked-up in Chicago. Thanks.

Never seen any bigger than a foot in captivity. Perhaps in the wild it is possible.

Re: my L102

Perhaps you were told wrong and they erred with the ID. LFS such as Rare Aquatics are not perfect with their identification. They do err every now and then you know. These are 100% Scobis. I know a Scobi when I see one. These are three males. Take a close-up shot of their mouths and you'll see they ...

It is common for them to look thin and frail coming from the wild. Hold on to them. With ample food, they'll be in better shape soon. Good luck!

Re: king tiger, how many is too many in tank?

I agree, filtration could be a concern. Panaques such as Royals make a lot of mess because of their wood dietary needs. Moreover, eventually these Royals will grow pretty big and demand more space and food. Making it pretty difficult for the smaller Hypans to compete. Another issue I believe is the ...
