Re: Corydoras fowleri?

Thanks Eric,

They are interesting even if misidentified. It looks like aggression will be a problem. Not one I would have guessed.

Thanks again.

Best,

Rich

Corydoras fowleri?

Hi All,

I got these as Corydoras fowleri but think they may be something else. These are pictures I took at the fish store.

Thanks for any help.

Re: L25 spawn at last!

Congratulations! That's fantastic. Would you mind posting a bit more info on the tank and cave? Maybe a pic or two of the adults? That is just an awesome accomplishment.

Large Cats

Hi All, I have a sorubimichthys planiceps about 4 feet long. I can only enter a size up to about a meter. For those of you concerned, the fish is in an 8'x24' tub of about 16,000L capacity. While not oversized, I think it's ok for now. Anyway, I can't enter the size of the fish because 1,000 mm is t...

Re: Wallago micropogon

Thank you, Viktor and minipol, I appreciate comments from both of you. With a few exceptions, I have found the predatory big cats to be challenging. Starting with a small juvenile and getting a large cat out of it seems to take both skill and luck. I was sad to read of Viktor's experience with a Wal...

Re: ID please?

I think you're right. The head shape is quite different. So...maybe not polli? :d

Re: ID please?

How does this compare to your fish? Both of us need work on our photographic skills. =;
Here is a pic of a female. I was using a macro lens and have no depth of field.

Re: Wallago micropogon

Hi minipol,

Yes, I have a series of larger tanks for it as it grows. Currently, my largest cats (largest at just under 1 m) are in a 4,000 liter aquarium. However, a 2.6 x 8 m x 1 m deep awaits. It is about 16,000 liters.

Regards,

Rich

Re: ID please?

I think the previous owner was correct. I breed both species and the larger fish looks very much like the S. polli I breed. Great fish that live forever. I had my wild adults for more than a decade before starting to breed them. Sexing them is typical for any of the Tanganyikan Synos. If you are not...

Wallago micropogon

I was given a Wallago micropogon a couple of months ago. It has settled in and is doing well. Regardless of the species, it is an interesting addition to the big cat collection. Sorry for the poor picture. It is not in a tank that is conducive to photography and I am not a good photographer. I'll tr...

Re: Wallago

Thanks for the help. It looks like one hint would be looking at the length of the barbels. Leerii seems to have a wider distribution than micropogon, from what I could tell by reading the descriptions. I will try to find out where the fish was collected however since it was not purchased at a LFS, t...

Wallago

Hi All, I was recently given a Wallago, likely a W. micropogon. I am curious if anybody knows how to id the various species? Or, I guess more importantly, is or are there external, visible characteristics that I could use to id my juvenile (5") fish? And, yes, I have large tanks. Thanks. Regard...

Re: Zungaro Zungaro aggression - experience?

Hi Viktor, Ted is Ted Judy from Wisconsin. Super nice guy. Neither cat had trouble with the climbing perch. Actually, within a couple of weeks, the Zungaro was taking two at a sitting. I am feeding them smelt now. When I went back to the Asian market, the climbing perch came two to a pound instead o...

Re: Zungaro Zungaro aggression - experience?

Thank you for the kind replies and questions. I am trying to finish the 1000 as quickly as possible. It is almost done. Both the Zungaro and the planiceps are growing extremely fast. Both are taking 10" smelt twice a week. While the smallest clown loach is much smaller than the food the Zungaro...

Re: Zungaro Zungaro aggression - experience?

Hi All, I'm a noob here but long time fishkeeper. I picked up a Zungaro about a year ago as a 3" (8 cm) specimen at the LFS. The LFS had received him/her as an unknown small, predatory cat. The LFS owed me and pushed me to take the unknown (Zungaro) cat. I kept the fish alone in a 15 gallon tan...
