Re: Lucippinis not eating after a move

What do you do with water changes? Do you let a bucket of water sit overnight or what? Cheers Jools In the past I have done 50%-75% by draining via hose and pouring “Prime “ in for my tank size then using my hand to match temperature filling the tank back up while watching the thermometer making su...

Re: Lucippinis not eating after a move

I tested the water yesterday and the ph is at 8 now. So the Caribsea African Cichlid substrate has adjusted the ph. I am assuming I will need to do smaller water changes in order to not cause the ph to drop to much after water changes?

Re: Lucippinis not eating after a move

Sounds good. I don't see red flags. They are taking time to adjust to new pH (I hope it is stable, because if it is not, it'd be a red flag), some shorter time, some longer. When changing the pH, it is probably a good idea to monitor it closely to know for sure what the new number it will settle at...

Re: Lucippinis not eating after a move

So the pH in the old tank had been 7.0 consistently. What is it in the new tank and how were the fish introduced to the new pH - instantaneously or gradually? I slowly added water from the tank into the bucket with the fish for an hour every 15 minutes. The PH was 7.5 when I placed the fish into th...

Re: Lucippinis not eating after a move

I kept the same biomedia, sponge, and pre filter sponge. I kept them in a bucket with tank water. I have an Aquaclear 110 filter with all of the media that came with it. The tank had been running for over a year. I just switched it from a South American tank to an African tank which is why I finally ...

Re: Lucippinis not eating after a move

Are the rest of your water parameters close to pre move and do you have chlorimines in your water my experience indicates they are very sensitive to chlorimines and food wise and I found this out by accident, you could go to your local LFS and get a net full of feeder guppies, mine Weren't bought a...

Re: Lucippinis not eating after a move

Can you tell us more about the relocation? How did you re-setup the tank? If they were healthy before the move, they'll be fine not eating for weeks. So don't overfeed first. Let's then figure out if they need more time to settle or if something else is going on. Jools The move was only 45 minutes ...

Lucippinis not eating after a move

I just relocated. I have 7 Lucippinis in a 36” x 18” x 16” aquarium. I have fed them the same foods they have been eating mostly New Life Spectrum 1mm sinking pellets and algae max wafers. It has been 6 days and they aren’t eating yet. They come out in the evening like they always have but I’m const...

Re: Are most petricola for sale actually lucipinnis?

I just recently purchased 8 that were labeled “Dwarf Petricola” and when I would refer to them as Lucippinis the employee would try to correct me saying they are “Dwarf Petricola” Lol! I didn’t want to argue so I just stopped talking.

Re: Ongoing Synodontis Thread

Ive had them in the past and i was amazed at how majestic and beautiful they were in the tank. Reminded me of the whale sharks in the ocean Mine for the first time swam to the top of the tank to get pellets when I came to feed! It normally just swims over the gravel where I am feeding so it surpris...

Re: Ongoing Synodontis Thread

Great to see an S. angelicus again, I love that species. Jools I found it here in Oklahoma in a small local fish store. They usually have adults that people have traded in, but I luckily got this one at around 2 inches the photo is when I first got it it's around 4 inches now. I paid $100 for it wh...

Re: Proper stocking for my aquarium?

Suddenly I feel like a bad fish parent for keeping 5 full growns in a 55gal. Mine were happy, I had plenty of hiding spaces. They were happier in the 90 gallon, sure, but I had no problems in the 55. You had 5 what Platydoras or Agamyxis in your 55 gallon? The platydoras I had were really aggressiv...

Re: Proper stocking for my aquarium?

I ended up only keeping 1 Agamyxis pectinifrons so I no longer have the 2 platydoras armalatus they were really aggressive eaters and when they were out they were really moving searching for food so I assumed when they get large they would be a handful so I decided to stick with Agamyxis pectinifron...

Re: Velvet and Platydoras armatulus suggestions?

Well I know a lot of people who keep separate all items for their own tanks if they own multiple tanks so there is no cross contamination (example each tank has it's own net and algae scrubber). So if you had it in another tank it could have been transferred over via another item and not necessarily...

So Bas Pels I thought 4x by 2x by 2x was an appropriate tank size? My tank is actaully 6x my fishes adult length. I am confused on why this fish needs such a large tank?
