Can you help me ID this hoplo?

Hi all, These hoplos were wild-caught in the Rio Nanay near Iquitos by a friend of mine. They were mixed together with a group of other hoplos, including Dianema longibarbis and a few very small Megalechis . The largest is about 5-6cm SL. The smallest about 2.5cm SL. I believe these are Callichthys ...

Re: Imported as Ancistrus bodenhameri from Petra Aqua. Now spawned!

I don't know if they ever spawned two weeks ago (on a 28 day schedule), but I did find at least two young babies swimming around the tank. 20221122_191747.jpg Either more eggs escaped the cave on spawn #2 (although these babies were noticeably smaller than the 1 month old fry in my breeder ring), or...

Pleco in Cichlidae?

Hi Jools,

Today in the my cats photos, this appeared. I clicked on the photo and it sites a hypan in Cichlidae, with an Apistogramma name.

Yes, any Peckoltia would be good. Or if you want to "level jump" in your 300L, try any Leporacanthicus.

Re: Fishes near Iquitos

August came late, but Christmas came early... Finally, after three months, most of the species I collected or bought in Iquitos in August landed in California. Of course, wild caught fish are prone to mortality, so I'm told that the local students and managers at ARCOF worked to replace some of the ...

Re: Male or female?

I'm ambivalent about the vent because I've never been good with sexing plecos using that feature. But the body shape and pectoral spines (https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/im ... ge_id=9100) suggest to me that this is a female. I may be wrong.
