Re: Microglanis lucenai new species from the Rio Mampituba basin, Brazil and Microglanis cibelae is revalidated

Question to my taxonomist friends:
With this paper published, does the revalidation of Microglanis cibelae become official? Or do additional steps need to occur before the revalidation is legitimate?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Thanks for update. :-)

To be honest, I like the old stars for type localities, but we work with what we have, so a color difference works too.

Cheers,

I was hesitant to include them, but did because if the fish are growing, they may have been moved to a bigger tank.

My guess is that in most cases they won't have been moved so I'm fine omitting that.

Re: Is it worth adding an extra category to the "Further spawns" in BLOGs?

Let me think about this. Some data, such days to hatching, max length at various ages, etc., will be tied together based on feeding, crowding and temperature parameters with each each spawn. Those don't intrinsically represent reproducible data but might be left as a single number such as (what is t...

Is it worth adding an extra category to the "Further spawns" in BLOGs?

Hi Jools, As I record data for repeat spawns, one thing that changes (usually growing or stabilizing at a higher number after initial spawns) is the egg count. Would it be worth or practical to add egg count/clutch size to the Further spawns category? I've prepared a graphic for what it might look l...

Re: Amblydoras nauticus spawned

Impatient as I am (I blame ADD), I harvested the eggs tonight. I collected 173 good eggs, 3 bad eggs, and 32 more hatched fry from last week's spawn. About 1/4 of the eggs and fry washed out from multiple rinses through the terra cotta pot. Reflecting back on the last spawn being only 130 or so eggs...

Another Amblydoras nauticus spawn overnight, 18 April. Will collect the eggs tomorrow. That's only 5 or 6 days since the last spawn! My L397 breed year round, but they are definitely seasonal in terms of the intensity of breeding. I get more spawns in mid to late summer than I do from October - March.

Others will be able to add better info, but L052 is noticeably 'flatter' and not as full-bodied; the eyes are larger (in comparison to the head) and located closer to the top of the skull, fin shapes and placement are slightly different, and as you noted the pattern is much more "muted", ...
