What do Vandelliine vampire cats eat?

This study caught my attention because the professor working across the hall from me does DNA analysis of blood in gut contents of mosquitoes to track host preferences in Central California, to help understand the spread of viruses like West Nile Virus and Zika Virus: Bonato, K. O., Silva, P. C., Ca...

Re: Rhyacoglanis rapp-pydanielae, new species from rio Tocantins basin

I wondered about that. Not something I've ever seen before, but I didn't know the rule.

So does this mean we can expect the species to be renamed? Is there some rapid-acting mechanism to correct improperly formed names?

Wetspot in Oregon had them, if they aren't sold out now. Dang. Just checked their website and the fish are no longer listed. Sorry.

Good luck!

Re: Fishes near Iquitos

I'm looking at the largest male "common" Ancistrus I brought back from Iquitos. This male has several fleshy bristles (not opercular odontodes) running from the lower front edge (approximately) of the operculum back and up towards the eyes. I've never noticed these before in other Ancistru...

Hypancistrus sp`rio_guaviare` looks about right, but I don't know how available it is.

@Acanthicus, your thoughts?

Re: Ancistrus that keep dying?

I agree with fishguy1978. Big water changes, clear build up from your filters, and siphon gravel/sand. If your substrate is more than 1/2" deep, consider removing fish from tank before disturbing the substrate, because it might release toxic gasses. Once you do this, you may not need medication...

Re: A visit to the store

Hi Cory-headache, The first photo is Dekeyseria picta , maybe L168. The second is a Hypancistrus . How big is it? It looks to be related to Hypancistrus debilittera but it looks larger than H. debilittera . Maybe Hypancistrus sp`rio_guaviare` or Hypancistrus sp(l340) ? (or maybe even L136c , but tha...

Re: Microglanis poecilus?

After thinking more of your request, I made two changes: 1) I added a question mark to the title of the thread, to reflect your original uncertainty and your effort to confirm the ID, and 2) I moved the thread to the "What is my catfish?" forum. I think those together do a fair effort to h...

fishguy1978 wrote: Mon Nov 29, 2021 1:48 amCan you change thread titles? Could you correct the title on this thread to A. Prashadi. Please
Yes I can, and you can too by editing the OP title. But I'd rather not since it would make the other replies not make sense. For context, I'd prefer to leave it alone.

Dang, lucky you. Not Microglanis poecilus, or any Microglanis for that matter. This is one of the Akysis species, maybe Akysis prashadi or Akysis vespa.

Good luck with them.

Re: Heater for pricy plecos

Fluval E series heaters are my preference. In tanks over 50 gal, I place 2 underrated heaters to keep tank at temp.

I am currently running about 20 Fluval E heaters.

And I never buy used heaters. Why risk killing over $100 of fish to save $20-$40 on a heater?

Panaqolus make a lot of poop. I would recommend coarse foam (10 pores per in or 20 pores per inch) so that it does not clog easily.
