Re: Corydoras/Brochis and leaves ?

I keep Corydoras rabauti in a 40 breeder with a pretty heavy amount of IAL. They seem to do well. I find they'll often be a few hanging out under a leaf if it provides shade, and I do think that the darker water increases activity versus a bright tank. I have never seen them eat the leaf litter, but...

Re: A tiny interesting black catfish

We recently got about a dozen fish that look similar to this at my LFS, labelled as "Asian Red Tail Catfish" but they are this colour, leading me to believe they are actually Hemibagrus wyckii . I do not know if this fish is, however, as the forehead seems too elevated and I have not seen ...

Re: Cory ID - Sold as C. aeneus

Did the store have more? Might be a good idea to get them and make your group even more splendid. They did! They had a whole tank full, not yet for sale (fortunately I knew the guy). Today's a holiday, but perhaps tomorrow I will go back and pick up another 12. So definitely not Corydoras rabauti ?...

Cory ID - Sold as C. aeneus

Picked a group of 12 of these up for $40 CAD. Sold as Corydoras aeneus.

To me, they look like Corydoras zygatus.

Can someone please ID them for me?

Synodontis notatus temperature

Hello, I am looking to add a couple of bichir to my tank, with the current stocking being a Synodontis notatus , a Synodontis decorus , two Mystus leucophasis , and a single Pterygoplichthys pardalis . The tank is currently kept at 76F, but bichir prefer it warming, and I would like to raise the tem...

Re: Fisher's Woodcats

On day two, they're extremely active. Bit shy if I put a hand in the tank, but other than that totally relaxed - they even investigate a finger on the glass. Eating well, too.

I did manage to get 2 males and 2 females, so expect a breeding project to start up within 6 months - 1 year.

Are these fish available somehow? AFAIK, even catching them is illegal due to their endangered status.

Fisher's Woodcats

Hello, Just yesterday I was at a new LFS, and it looks like someone dropped off 6 Fisher's Woodcats. I picked up 4 of them, and I'm hoping for a pair out of the bunch to attempt breeding. I would have gotten all 6, but at $60 a pop it was already a rather expensive purchase I wasn't accounting on. M...

Re: Mystus leucophasis advice

I would say I have, yes. I know they are bred in large ponds in Asia, but I haven't managed to find any information regarding that. I have seen absolutely no reports of anything aside from the vague claim that they are bred in Asia for food.

Why, have you seen something I have not?

Chaetostoma formosae temperature

The Chaetostoma formosae Cat-eLog page lists this fish's temperature at 68-73.4°F, while the Chaetostoma joropo 's temperature is listed at 69.8-86°F. These fish have nearly identical distributions. Is it possible that the formosae's temperature data is incorrect, and that the formosae may be able t...

Re: Mystus leucophasis advice

Right, brief update on the sick/wounded fish. He's been moved to a 10 gallon quarantine tank with a towel over it to keep it dark. Dosed Seachem Neoplex to help clear up some infection visible in his mouth and fins. He's eating, suspected he'll make a full recovery and then I will sell him off as he...

Mystus leucophasis Journal

So, an interesting development. I've been watching the tank for a couple hours to see how the smallest AUSD (pictured in the gif) is doing, and I've noticed that the other two (similarly sized male and female I believe) are exhibiting what to me appears to be courtship behaviour. While chasing does ...

Re: Mystus leucophasis advice

So, a bit of a problem in the 125 gallon today. I noticed that my smallest AUSD, which is definitely the most picked on, has some white patches around the mouth. I cannot tell if it's an injury or mouth rot, so I'm hoping someone here can help me ID it - and treat it, whatever the case may be. Here'...

Re: "Why catfish?"

I was new to fishkeeping, my biggest tank at the time being a 36 gallon aquarium I had picked up - it had a bristlenose and a mystery snail in it. I had wanted the bristlenose just because I knew that he was a good fit for the tank, and I knew the "common pleco" species weren't. Essentiall...

I'll upload some pictures later on. I've recently had surgery, so the glass is a bit messy and such currently. Once I've my usual energy back I'll give the tank a good cleaning and then throw a video up - that'll let me include my other catfish tanks as well. Aye, I suspect that as these guys should...

As per request, an update on my fish! I have actually expanded my collection of Mystus leucophasis to three. I am looking for identification for this fish.

The seller wants $80 CAD for it, though as I am unsure of what it is, I refuse to buy it for any price.

Stocking some smaller tanks

Hello, I'm in the process of putting together my fish room, which involves moving some fish around. I will be left with an empty 5 gallon, 10 gallon, and 15 gallon. I am wondering if there are any interesting species to stock in tanks that are this small. I am not interested in cramping any fish, bu...

Re: Mystus leucophasis advice

I've decided to keep him, as I don't feel he's going to be properly cared for if he goes to an LFS.

He'll be going into the 125, and he'll be the sole inhabitant for awhile while I figure out my plans.

Re: Mystus leucophasis advice

Hm, it may not be worth housing the AUSD with other fish, then. I'm not looking to create stress for my fish.

Perhaps I will try to rehome him, though it would require a really dedicated enthusiast to purchase a nearly foot long, stark black, nocturnal and aggressive catfish.
