Roller mat filters in sump, any good???

Hi, I am in the process of planning a new 1000 ltr ultra low maintenance tank with a sump, I know the marine guys are moving on from filter socks/sponges to rollermats like the Clarisea and was wondering if anyone has any comments or experience of using them in a tropical setup, a roll change every ...

Re: L240 size

My breeders have been about 6 inches for a while....i think this is about max size....maybe my biggest male is 7. However, i think your fish is L-007, based on the black band on the trailing edge of the dorsal and caudal fins that 240 has and yours doesn't. Still gets to be the same size as i under...

L240 size

Hi, the kind folk here have identified my pleco as a L240. I have had it for 9months and it has not changed in size, it is still only around 6" / 15cm. I understand they grow to around 24cm, does anyone know over what time.

Re: How low is too low for KH

The 8 hours for the oase 650 is because it is the second filter and used to supplement the juwel filter bioflow L stack as the standard juwel set up has less than 3x turnover for a 350ltr tank at 1000lph as well as only being specified for tanks upto 60cm. As this is a standard configuration for Juw...

Re: How low is too low for KH

I agree with Darrel. Pics and more details of filtration, etc would be helpful. Are you using KH boosting media in your filter? Where I live on the southwest coast of Canada, our municipal water is basically rainfall and snow melt with a TDS of < 30 normally. In a 24 cycle, my planted tanks swing f...

Re: How low is too low for KH

Filtration standard Juwel rio stack, foam and ceramic media full time with oase 650 biomaster canister filter again with foam and plastic balls operating 8 hrs per day. So possibly overkill on the filtration but you can never have too much can you????

Re: Ideal Water Parameters

I had similar parameters and results that you are until I switched to RO (DI is overkill for freshwater) now nitrates, nitrite and ammonia all 0, and I can control KH with addition of tap water. So far running dKH at 3 and everyone is happy in the tank

How low is too low for KH

Hi All I use RO water in a medium planted and stocked 350ltr tank which is currently at 3dkh, everything seem happy and parameters are 0 ammonium, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate and are consistent between my 15% weekly water changes. I have read stories about tank crashes and am concerned that the low KH coul...

Re: galaxy pleco with yellow spots or something different?

Thanks for the info, he is very timid so tends to hide when you get too close to the tank so may take a while for better pics. If he is L240, not sure what to do as LFS said it was close to fully grown at circa 15cm, according to excellent info here he will grown to 24cm, not sure my 350ltr tank wil...

galaxy pleco with yellow spots or something different?

Hi I purchased a beautiful pleco and was told it was a galaxy pleco with unusual markings, I have not been able to find any pics of a galaxy with yellow spots so am wondering if the LFS incorrectly ID'd him any help with an ID would be greatly appreciated
