Re: Extreme problems in corydoras tank.

And it continues. Now it, whatever it is, has spread to another tank even though I tried my best to use separate tools etc. My Sterbai started acting just the same as the cw009 and metae used to do. Starting out laying lethargic and then going up for air more frequently, now mostly laying around hav...

Re: Extreme problems in corydoras tank.

Little update: Moved the metae to a 54litre tank and the cw009 to a 20litre plastic tote like 10 days ago(shortly after I made the thread). Weirdly enough they almost overnight became much more active/normal(atleast the cw009), now 10 days later they can even swim normally/upright but still have pro...

Re: Tips for new pleco breeding project thanks.

Thanks for the input/ideas guys, think L134 is out of the question since I have a guy in my area that breed them so I don't wan't to be direct competitor and he get enough of them to saturate the market. I might just go for L200 anyway(would be nice with a pleco that you see, are you having them in ...

Tips for new pleco breeding project thanks.

Had so much problem with my corys etc and I feel like I am "done" with my L397s after having 3 spawns. First I thought about putting the hobby on the shelf for awhile but then I realized how boring my life would be so I will instead treat myself with a tank for christmas :)) Think ill go s...

Re: Bristlenose Pleco belly up but still alive

Sounds like diet issues or constipation to me but who knows. I had a Bristlenose randomly die on me during a water change a half year ago or so(looked abit like you described it except he didn't float to the top), it also had a bloated stomach, a bit weird since I barely fed any protein heavy food i...

Re: Corydoras diseases: blood trail

There is something called "red blotch disease"(have major problems with my corydoras and stumbled across it, not what mine have though, and it looks similiar?). Just a guess.

Re: Extreme problems in corydoras tank.

No I only use sponges but it might be worth a try, don't think it's the reason(I have actually seen that happen with corys in transportation and it looked different the gills of mine etc seem normal) but then again it can't be worse, tank is like a literal nightmare to look at, corys that cant handl...

Re: Extreme problems in corydoras tank.

Nothing to dechlor in my water and I use same for all tanks and the rest got no problems, there is either some disease going on or there is something present in the tank that I can't measure for. Appreciate all the input but I do know what I am doing, kinda, and have ruled out stuff like the most co...

Re: Extreme problems in corydoras tank.

Another thing to check would be water circulation. Coming to the surface could be a sign of poor oxygen levels at the bottom. Filter flow dropped off, power head stuck, reduced surface agitation would reduce the oxygen at the bottom. I don't know if low oxygen levels would cause your problem, but i...

How long have you had this tank and is it possible something has changed with your water supply have you tried carbon filtration Jeanne No I only use spongefilters but I don't have any problems in my other tanks and I change water in them on same day. I guess it's possible that the water was contam...

Extreme problems in corydoras tank.

Tank is about 150liters of water, it houses 12 cw009 and 12 metae. A week or two ago I noticed the corydoras started to surface alot more than usual, measured what I could and found nothing out of the ordinairy except that ph was a tad bit on the low side compared to normal(slightly below 7 instead ...

I bred them in "community" tank with corydoras sterbai, ancistrus, a ram and lemon tetras. Fry survived just fine but second spawn I moved cave since while the fry might survive catching them is neigh impossible in a arranged tank. My group was about 2 years old when they started to breed...

Re: Deformed pleco possibly egg bound what to do?

I d say most of this issues dont conclude genetic issues. Its mostly water and food issues from bred. Some strains with others have been bred for like 50 years and are still going strong. The fish is deformed, it got a "caved in" head and is slightly bent but seems to be happy otherwise a...

Re: Deformed pleco possibly egg bound what to do?

It could also be a gut disorder - maybe stop feeding for a 2 or 3 weeks? It wouldn't harm an egg-bound fish, as nutrition is unavailable to make eggs. Jools This is what I am trying, I placed the fish in a temporar tank of it's own and fasting it, not seeing much difference so far(maybe a little) b...

Deformed pleco possibly egg bound what to do?

Got a L397 that always looked wrong and it's clearly not breeding material so I keep it isolated from the group in a community tank. Lately it has gotten very, very fat. I doubt it's a feeding issue cause I only feed during the day and for the most part look at the tank while fish are eating and she...

Re: Do plecos/L397 breed year around?

I have decided that I will separate them, don't think the market is large enough around here to support a constantly breeding colony and frankly I don't like giving them up/have a hard time separating from ones born here. Do you think a 15gallon would be large enough to house 2-3 females, not sure i...

Re: Do plecos/L397 breed year around?

I've never separated the sexes, so I don't know how likely females are to become egg bound. However, yes they breed all year round, but in my house they slow down in mid-late autumn then start back up in mid spring. And yes you can become overrun quickly. ;-) Cheers, Eric Ok that's what I feared :)...

Do plecos/L397 breed year around?

Because I am going to have so many in that case, don't know what I would possibly do with all so probably best to just separate in that case? Thanks Eric! :) Maybe ill try to squeeze a 3rd tank in there so I can separate the 3 lineage 9 corys, wouldn't be well recieved but don't think I can make myself give any of them up and don't wan't to risk hybridisation.

Mixing 4 different types of corydoras in same tank, is it ok?

I am more or less forced to downscale the hobby atleast for the time being. I have corydoras sterbai(x13), leucomelas(x7), cw009(x6) and metae(x5+a couple of fry) Would it be possible to house these 4 species in a tank together for the forseeable future? Mostly worried about crossbreeding, temperatu...

The fry keep dying, think there are only 6-7 left since I found one dead today, quite easy to spot them since the snails eat on them. Might be they are just not very healthy from the get go? Did so, at this rate id consider it a success if I get a single adult cory out of them.
