Re: Corydoras ln8sc4 identification

I am curious as to why one of them might have developed such long pelvic fins, I've never seen that before. Could it be a form of sexual dimorphism, regional variation or just random? Unfortunately their origin cannot be determined as they came from an online seller selling them as C. punctatus - an...

Re: About filtration

Interesting thread, I have been running my Corydoras tanks "unfiltered" and have not experienced or noticed any adverse effects. Both have strong circulation via large uplift tubes with strong air-stones and a reasonable amount of plants. The tanks are heavily stocked and do get regular la...

Here are some more recent photos of the fish in question, taken since they have settled in and grown a little. Three of the five have very similar patterning, one has stronger colouration and one has significantly longer pelvic fins. Z62_6841.JPG Z62_6844.JPG Z62_6854.JPG Z62_6879.JPG Z62_7001.JPG

Re: Corydoras (ln5) id

Thank you. I was leaning towards CW105 on a superficial appearance but the stripe from eye to dorsal seems to rule them out. A shame there are not more photos of CW029 but one other similarity it has to my fish is the small spot at the caudal end of the central stripe.
Cheers,
Andrew

That's interesting about the association with a 'mimic' species. I will see what I can find out about their origin next time I visit the shop, probably in the new year.

I thought these might be C. bilineatus but apparently that species is not commonly encountered in the pet trade, I am wondering if they might be or ?

Re: New Cory at my LFS - not blochi?

These are lovely fish, I've always liked the cryptic squiggles of trilineatus and these have a similarly pleasing pattern but with a different form. The larger size, longer snout and white fringing around the dorsal spot really set them apart. I got three of them about a month ago from a good shop, ...

Re: Dianema urostriatum showing signs of spawning

Several years later, another tank and a new group of Diamena. The tank (garden tank 2 in my profile) has been set up for barely two weeks and the fish in it for just on one week, a group of 5 flagtails in with a bunch of corys. Temp 21 deg C, soft water with 30% water changes every other day; a dail...

Corydoras ln8sc4 identification

I would like help in identifying these five Corydoras, I believe there are at least two if not more species from ln8sc4, most likely candidates being C. agassizii and C. ambiacus. They were purchased from an online retailer who had them listed as C. punctatus with a stock photo of such, which they a...

Cheers, I also wondered if one of the former might be delphax, I will try to get a photo of that one.

The possible leucomelas had me stumped due to the amount of black in the dorsal fins.

A couple more IDs - C. leopardus & C. bilineatus

I picked these up from a proper shop the other day, marked C. blochi and C. napoensis but I beg to differ.

These I wonder if they might be C. leopardus or possibly a C number?

Identification - C. agassizii & C. leucomelas

I recently got a group of corys from an online fish shop, they were listed and as C. punctatus but clearly are not. Upon raising this with the seller they conceded they were not the right ones and sent me another four which included one more of the same (C. agassizii?) plus three different (C. leuco...

Re: Panda Cory Barbel Erosion

Just to add my 2c I think 2" of sand is way too deep for a small group of blunt-nosed Corys, I would reduce it to about 1/2". The bubbles popping up may well be nitrogen from de-nitrification due to anaerobic conditions and if the corys are digging in this they could be exposed to poor con...

Re: Dianema urostriatum showing signs of spawning

I finally got a look at the underside of the leaf, there seems to be quite a few eggs under there ready to hatch. I put the raft in a tub, along with the male as he refused to be separated from it, I'll try to tease him out later. A couple of pics and another video of him putting around! 20140430_09...

Re: Dianema urostriatum showing signs of spawning

Yeah I think I might have to do that. The male is definitely guarding the egg raft, he's never far from it and often sits underneath upside-down and shunts the leaf about like a boat whenever it drifts out of the corner.

Re: Dianema urostriatum showing signs of spawning

One of the adults (the male?) is still hanging around the leaf, when I poke my finger in the water near there's a bit of thrashing that seems to suggest 'keep away'. Not sure what I'm going to do, I don't have any other tanks I can put them in so I was going to float the leaf in plastic tub floating...

Re: Bloated, gravid or fat?

That poor fish has been in a nice big tank since last update and has lost its fat and is now a happy and healthy 'normal' size adult eupterus. Turns out when it was in the pub tank it had learnt to slurp all the floating cichlid pellets that got stuck on the weir grate, hence the rapid weight gain a...

Video of apparent spawning.

Hard to see from under as they've knocked some plants in the way but it looks like there is a collection of dark dots under the leaf. I don't want to bother them so I'll have a closer look later when they've finished.
