Re: Poorly Featherfin squeaker :(

I have not used API conditioner myself. I do use "Prime" neutralizer, mainly for the chloramine. My cats are sensitive, and they've taught me over the years how much (more or less) I need to add. I don't measure since I've been doing it for so long. I would think you'd be safe with putting...

Re: Poorly Featherfin squeaker :(

Hah! believe me, you are not alone, they trick me all the time! But seriously, this fish is a schooling species in my opinion. They just need a lot of space to get away from each other when they need to, and as they get older. An S. eupterus at 4.5 inches, I would guess is about 3-4yo. or older, dep...

Re: Poorly Featherfin squeaker :(

If you're getting positive results with the water conditioner, that's a good thing. But I would be cautious about adding more chemicals to your tank. It is so easy to try to 'fix stuff' with chemicals when we know so little about fish physiology. From what I see on your videos, it looks like your 'b...

Re: Synodontis ID, potential S. Ocifeller?

Have you checked your 'furniture' (ie. driftwood, ornaments) thoroughly? Syno's can lock themselves into small cavities and not let go for periods of time (or at least until they can't breath). Take the furniture out of the tank and set it on a towel. Wait a few minutes, it might just fall out of th...

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?

Maybe you've got a consolidated pair of the Vieja hybrids? Looks like the smaller female (black throat) is defending on the opposite side of furniture. Doesn't look like they have figured out how to defend against those loaches though.

Sounds pretty typical of Agamyxis sp. I kept a couple for awhile: very photophobic, mine would burrowers underneath stuff.

Re: Lake Tanganyikan Synodontis ID

Hi edds, I've never kept S grandiops or multipunctatus, but I have kept lucipinnis. I do think you have a group of S. multipunctatus based on your pics; or at least a mixture of multipunctatus/grandiops, but don't quote me, I could be wrong. S lucipinnis tops out at smaller size than either of the o...

Re: ID of possible synodontis ornatipinnis (?) bought as corydoras

Hello crpr, Since they are possibly hybrids, no one knows just how big they will grow to. If I were you, I would move them into about a 40 gallon/150L tank, just to be on the safe side. If they grow to 6inches/150mm I would get them into a larger tank. I would be careful about adding plecos, as they...

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?

So happy he is still alive. You know Viktor, maybe it's not the swim bladder that is the problem. Maybe it started doing it because of the eye? I've had fish with missing eyes, some are ok with it, some are not ok with it. Some die from it. What if its trying to keep the eye out of the water because...

No, because water temp has never been an important parameter in my field work. But I’d estimate it to be about 23–25 degrees Celsius.
Thanks Silurus.

Re: Hyalobagrus flavus

Well, I can tell you that they do best in a fairly 'quiet, backwater' type setups (no big aggressive eaters, larger territorial fish, etc.) They are small and relatively slow to the food. Micropredators, preferring live or frozen, but will eat pellets. No big current. Because of their small size and...

Can't go direct to Families search

Hi guys, I can't seem to go directly to a family through the Cat-elog. Under Cat-elog, I click on families, the sub-bubble list of families loads, I go to click on the family I want and I get 6 - 8 lines of jargon. All starting with "php bbs.........". But I can back into the family by cli...

And make sure your floor joist are such that it can handle the weight (load bearing range). I don't know what its like in Scotland but here in the US attic flooring can have a low "load bearing range".

Okay, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I give up. How do I add multiple species to one aquarium in "My Aquaria"?
