Re: Fish tanks in loft/Attic?

in the us, the tank in the attic (sometimes on the top floor) is used to purge air from the forced hot water system and is very heavy!

Re: TitanEze stands

I think I am going to go with the stand,
I'm not much of a carpenter and I would need a dado head to do it right and I think a new saw, don't think my radial arm will cut it
If memory serves Foster and Smith used to sell this brand so It must be okay....... right?

TitanEze stands

does anyone have experience with this brand of metal stands? I need to neaten things up a little and I currently have 2 - 75 gallon tanks sitting on repurposed 120 gallon (60" x 18") stands. I thought I would buy one of these stands and get rid of the 120 stands I look at the picture on Am...

Re: Swiss Tropicals corner sponge filters

do you think free-standing sponge filters are a effective as say, blocking a corner of the tank off like you are doing? Do you think two large free standing filters would do a heavily stocked 90? I use Eheim 2217s, 12 of them, and, as you say, the electric bill is starting to get outrageous. we pay ...

Jewel Tanks

They are beautiful, every time I see a picture of one I want it We don't have anything similar in the States, at least not that i can afford Just out of curiosity how expensive are they? I assume that they are sold in liter size so a Jewel 480 would be a 480L tank? What kind of filters do they have?...

Re: Heater for pricy plecos

yeah, it's not a perfect solution but what is?
I've used the controllers for close to 20 years and have never had a problem
realistically an 85.00 piece equipment that is used commercially is a lot less likely to fail than a 14.95 Petco heater

Re: Heater for pricy plecos

also price wise you are talking 85.00 for two tanks, 42.00 per tank
if we are talking about expensive fish it's not a lot of money and you are using quality device to heat the tanks, not some no name Petco special

Re: Heater for pricy plecos

two tanks of the same size, one probe, the tanks stay at the same temp because the probe is turning BOTH sets heaters on and off. even if one heater goes into overheat it is still protected by the probe thermostat and it will still go on and off like the tank with the probe

Re: Heater for pricy plecos

Jehmco also sells a good heater controller, all solid state and it can also be used as a chiller controller also. The last time I bought one it was about 75.00, like everything else they probably have gone up a little but the price is almost irrelevant when you are talking expensive fish. I have a 1...

CaribSea makes a black gravel that seems to work well for me, might have to order it online, a really well-stocked fish store might carry it too.
also looks really good

I have had 12 Eheims of various sizes that have been going for 10+ years. I have resolved this year to replace them all, 2 at a time. I don't use the thermometers in the tanks as the only heater control. I learned the hard way as many people have when 25 baby Multis fried. i felt awful and this is w...

I use it as a net sanitizer and I purchased it from the source mentioned. I put 3 or 4 ounces in a 5 gal bucket and use it to sterilize nets. I had a problem with ich and it had spread from tank to tank before I realized I had a problem. Then I used dipped the water change hoses in it so as not to i...

when you haul them out to clean you inevitably get water all over the front of the tank and the floor. you can minimize this by using a small pan and putting right up to the tank and transferring the filter to it but you still make a mes IMHE

the theoretical standard of service here is 1 -10 minute outage every 10 years, what a joke

i too have Cory tanks and i use black sand, since i am using it for a foraging place i only use 3/4 of an inch. i would guess that with a layer that small there is relatively little bio filtration done, also doesn't trap larger particles, in fact they do sit on top of the sand so it makes sense filt...
