Re: Looking for TRUE synodontis petricola

Well in the UK I would go Mikes rifts and not trust the so called tank bred petricola in some shops I see. I may be old and jaded but wow are there some folk out there selling stuff as it is not. I guess its what they bought em as but its hardly a good explanation as they often know the truth. Erm w...

Re: Catfish for breeding Tropheus Tank

Its a very old thread but the advice here I found as good. Yep I got quite a lot of fry survival. Yep I enjoyed the Synos in the tank. But yep they reduced the breeding compared to my Tropheus only tank/tanks. I never directly saw loss of fry to lucipinis (not petricola as they were sold to me as (s...

Re: Synodontis petricola

Are there any photos of young S.petricola I can compare the shop ones to?

Why in the Cat-eLog does it still say
"Breeding Because of the similarity with S. lucipinnis, it is unclear if this species is the one many aquarists have spawned."?

Re: Synodontis petricola

Thanks. Kind of convinced by the Oliver Drescher report. Not at all convinced about the Neil Hardy Aquatics in the UK thing. I have as yet have found no evidence to support they are breeding a petricola not a lucipinnis. For sure the young stuff they sell via MH aquatics looks like lucipinnis to me....

Re: What is my synodontis ?

If you want to buy properly labeled Synos, petricola and lucipinnis and granulosa in the UK I suggest you look here. http://www.riftvalleycichlids.com/ Humm notice at the moment he has no lucipinnis but usualy has and for sure can get em both TB and WC. Note the petricola are always WC. Like me, he ...

Re: Synodontis Petricola?

NHA The guys who say they have bred Synodontis granulosus?
Dunno if they would allow a hobbiest like me to see their stuff. :-??
Dunno but maybe getting hold of genuine petricola is beyond my means.
Sad because I would like to try them.

Re: Synodontis Petricola?

If the names in my local Maidenhead or any other LFSs were just 5 years out of date.......... then it would be a major improvement. :ymblushing: Can I ask a couple of questions? For the descriptions of lucipinnis and petricola.........where were the fish from? And is it likely they have been crossed...

While I have your attention can I have more bites at the cherry/more questions? Is there a way of calling up photos of just all the Lake Tanganyika Synodontis? Is there a way of calling up photos of just all the Lake Malawi Synodontis? Why do breeders make Synodontis hybrids? I kind of understand it...

Re: 2 seven to nine inch auction Synodontis

I guess I wont bother breeding em then. :( Thanks for the replies. On care (I have em now, so I best give em decent conditions I guess) Would keeping em in a show tank with Tang featherfins etc be OK at pH about 8.6? Will they need anything other than a place to hide? What else would you guys...

Re: C-ichlid fry and Synodontis

Thanks for the answers guys. So far for me, I have lucipinnis in with Troph and gobies. Most (all but one WC) of my Troph in this tank were bred in a tank with lucipinnis in there by another guy. Ideal runt removal service? For serious breeding of the Troph then I guess I would remove them. I wonder...

C-ichlid fry and Synodontis

At what size are c-ichlid fry safe from predation by adult Synodontis lucipinnis and eupterus?

Is there another Syno that will eat less c-ichlid mouthbrooder fry or leave the fry alone at a smaller size?
