Re: Fishes near Iquitos
Hi Eric, Congrats on your flock of Physopyxis ! They are a neat and interesting doradid. I had maintained a group of them that I collected in the Rio Negro in Brazil a number of years ago. But no breeding. When you get home you might want to dig into the taxonomic weeds a bit in that in addition to ...

Re: Fishes near Iquitos
Hi Eric,
Looks like you are having a good time!
First batch of photos - picture number three - small doradid. Looks like a Physopyxis species to me.
This is an edit...I goofed ("adult"): the 5 mm size that you provided is even smallish for the genus Physopyxis.

HH - thanks for the follow-up. I guess, from what you say, that there is a bit of a mess for the authors to straighten out.

Re: Eight in one
Hi HH. Thanks for posting a note on the availability of this open access paper. I have a couple of questions that you can no doubt answer: On page 17, under the "Supplementary Material" section is the following note - "...ventral view of Tachysurus nicholsi sp. nov.,...". It is l...

Hi Eric,
Looks like you are having a wonderful fish-time!
I haven't pulled out the paper as of yet but the caudal pattern on the first Otocinclus certainly brings to mind the species O. batmani.

One follow up clarification on Lujan's comment regarding the priority of the new Tribe name Brachyglaniini: Nathan "...assumed..." that the Silva et al. paper would have it. Sorry if I overstated it in my last post.

Re: New suprageneric classification of the Neotropical three-barbeled catfishes (Siluriformes: Heptapteridae)
Eric: Thanks for adding in the additional material. I did get a copy of the paper this morning and am working through it and comparing with the Silva et al. paper that you had covered. Kind of in the same ball park, but some variance between the two. It will be interesting to see how all shakes down...

Re: New suprageneric classification of the Neotropical three-barbeled catfishes (Siluriformes: Heptapteridae)
Follow-up to original post: This paper and one posted in this forum earlier today by Eric (Evolutionary history of Heptapteridae) make for an interesting clash (or maybe crash) of science. I have not seen the full version of this paper yet (only the abstract) so any strong comparison is not possible...

Hi Eric,
Fast for putting in the new species...good!
The website I mentioned with the incorrect author placement for T. humboldti was the World of Fishes.
When I finish here a copy of the paper will be heading your way. Enjoy!

Re: A new Centromochlus (Auchenipteridae) from the Tocantins-Araguaia river drainage
A quick follow-up on my initial mention of the usage of the species names musaica and musaicus in the abstract: In the body of the full paper one of the species names ( musaica ) is used incorrectly on one occasion (page 150). It is used correctly on page 163. The name musaicus is used correctly on ...

Thanks Eric. The same pic was on the Zootaxa site, but I didn't mention it due to lack of defining info...as with the recent Corydoras description.
