Re: The hybrid Syno thread

tTo be honest my first thought was polli whites with the fish in the recent video.Unless the color was played with a bit.But are probably just a version of lucipinnis.

Re: Syno Eggs

This species is not a cave spawner, it is thought to be a scatterer using bunches of plants to scatter eggs into.Your fish look to be both S. eupterus.
You shoud have tried to hatch out the eggs that you saw, mind you I would have expected large numbers of very small eggs.

Re: WC Synodontis sp. "Kenya"?

I always have a hard time when a store advertises "Wild Caught" For example, I have seen among others, tanks full of "Wild Caught Albino" African Aulonocara cichlids. I realize they just call them what the exporter labels them as but research is very much needed before believing, as you are doing he...

Re: Can you please confirm IDs on these Synodontis?

To me both 2 and 3 look like hybrids, there is no evidence of pardalis at all.

Re: Ongoing Synodontis Thread

Your petricola are of course lucipinnis. I used piles of river rock which they enjoyed swimming in and out of. The more cover they have the braver they are to come out.

Re: Telling apart Synodontis eupterus and nigriventris

you dont really want nigrita...they are big bullies and greedy feeders.
the picture you have above for nigriventris is the zebra kutu variant.
The regular nigriventris have a variety of colors and patterns.

Re: My new Synodontis Melanostictus

I will give my opinion on the ID and I agree with the hybrid direction....the color of the eyes just says a tanganyikan syno is in the mix.but the shape of the head screams hybrid to me.
Melanostictus have a different body shape in my eyes.

Stop treating them with meds...get the water as clean as possible.Feed good quality foods and most Synodontis will live a long life.

Re: Synodontis Petricola Sickness?

Tanganyikan synos in general are very sensitive to any changes in their water system. They are like the canary in tbe mine....first to show something is going on. I would make sure the oxygen content is as high as possible. Also sometimes they just like to swin in weird places like these ones are doi...

Re: Synodontis nigriventris

The fish in the second photo is for sure Synodontis eupterus...not nigriventris.

Many people call all Synodontis upside down catfish

Eupterus will sometimes swim upside down but not that often.Usually done when resting or sitting in a hiding spot.
