Re: Symbiotic relationships between candiru catfish and botos

Excellent. Thank you, Eric. So cool of you to include the photos. Can't say I've often wondered how the candiru get around but now I know at least one way. On a bus.

Re: is this a Synodontis Longirostris?

Sorry, Viktor, no I didn't speak clearly. I didn't mean for free. I'm sure he'd buy the fish. He's been looking for a while, from what I've heard. ... Also, no, I wasn't referring to you, but I didn't mean to create competition. :ymblushing: o:-) Cheers, Eric Haha... thanks for the elaboration, Eri...

An eye candy! Great job and much respect. You and your Dad look like quite the handymen and you are armed with some serious tools too. You can take things very far, if you wanted to :) Hope this is just a stepping stone. Watch the view count on the thread, if it grows, people are reading. Like Panaq...

Re: is this a Synodontis Longirostris?

If anyone has a true longirostris they want to get rid of, I have a friend with a 4,000 gallon tank, about 30, maybe 40, feet long, who wants a few. Cheers, Eric That mystery friend of yours better be me or otherwise this'd be ridiculous IMHO... wanting a few holy grail catfish for free... the guts...

Mama mia! Can we see it in any shape or form? I've never seen one, let alone such size. What a prize!!!

To me, this is very interesting. I am sure most who find it interesting don't post. Why post trivial stuff and dilute the substance... It's fun to observe a project.

Re: Re siliconing

I don't know if you tried a surfactant before (soap, detergent), perhaps this was all that was needed, or the ammonia in the glass cleaner was needed. Hard to guess as this is more of a trial and error scenario. Sometimes an acid is needed, such as acetic or muriatic acid, other times a base, such a...

Re: is this a Synodontis Longirostris?

Thank you. Mr. Bigfish looks like my biggest hybrid named "Krol": https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=42768&hilit=hybrid+syno If so, it is the most common syno hybrid that has been sold for the last decade or longer. The one below is likely a genuine eupterus from the little I c...

Re: is this a Synodontis Longirostris?

Interesting how the thread is jump started 11.5 years later... Anyhow, very cool to hear from you, Sand, after such a long time (and we are neighbors BTW). I don't know anyone who keeps or kept S. longirostris but I imagine at 12 years old it would be approaching an astonishingly large size (for a s...

How have you imported Oliver's order, if you don't mind me asking? I am looking into ways to bring in three Lithodoras dorsalis from him and have two leads (through Predatory Fins or through New England Cichlid Association) but more knowledge is better.

Re: ID this Asian catfish

I used to keep several of these or very similar fish. Pimelodella is such a large genus and so many look close. The bigger upper caudal lobe indicates a male, if I recall correctly. this is helpful: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=34596&hilit=+pimelodella and yours from 2012 ...

Understood. Will look forward to it. What journal will you be writing the paper for? Or is it a less formal popular science kind of write-up for an internet publishing or some such?

Re: Spawning Ameiurus natalis

Tremendous. Thank you for sharing. You got lucky of course that the parent fish had been preparing to spawn in the wild just before you caught them but it looks like you have created the right conditions for them in your tank to not fall out of the mood. Great job. As stated before, some visuals wou...
