Re: Marc's fish room build

Yes I was really surprised, the two males were only introduced on the 8th December, I've had the three females for 4 or more years. It's puzzling to me that I really struggle to get things like common corys, ancistrus and hypancistrus to spawn, yet these spawned so quickly! Unfortunately the Sturiso...

Re: Marc's fish room build

It's been a while since I've posted anything, not a lot has changed in the fish room, I've put the heater back in and insulated the skylight for the winter. Rainwater collection has been going well, I've not had to use my RO unit for a while now. I attended a CSG meeting at Pier on the 8th December ...

Re: Google link broken

Thanks Eric,

I thought that the issue would be related to the splitting of Corydoras, just wasn't sure what the resolution would be, waiting for a bot to find the new address seems like a nice easy resolution :-).

Google link broken

Hi Jools, Another one for you! I was searching for Corydoras parallelus on Google, the Cat-eLog page was the first hit :-). However when you click on it, you get to Planet, but to an error page, which after a few seconds just re-directs you to the home page. The link from Google search is: https://w...

Typo in user info on the side panel

Hi Jools,

Today I noticed a small typo in the user information next to posts in the forum. Instead of 'my cats' it shows 'my my cats'.

Looking good Eric, did you just leave them in the spawning mop with the parents or move the mop to another empty tank to hatch out?

Re: Marc's fish room build

The Sturisomatichthys eggs hatched on Friday, I've lost a few of them since hatching so I've now moved them into a tank with just a young L260, plenty of algae and some old oak leaves. Hopefully they'll find enough food in there while I'm away. This morning I also found the first spawn of Ancistrus ...

Re: UK Summer Pond Project

I've just brought the fish back into the fish room, as the water has been regularly below 10c in the mornings. Given the fish have been exposed to water temperatures between 32c and 9c, I was pleasantly surprised to find they all survived, minus one of the tetras. There was even a small Scleromystax...

Re: Breeding log food error

That prompted me to go back in and try again, it now appears as an auto fill option when I start typing it! Works fine now! I first tried with the error, and now successfully, from the same Android mobile phone, if that might give any clues. Thanks again for looking into it, but it seems to work now!

Hi Jools,

I was trying to add 'Repashy Igapo Explorer'.

Thanks for looking into this!

Re: Using deep gravel and bacteria to control nitrogen

Hi Darrel, yes I still have the moss it's in a tank with the Asellus, hopefully that'll grow to a decent sized clump. Your comments about the java fern variants match with my experience, now I've thought about it, the narrow leaved version has all died, the few I have remaining are all the normal ty...

Welcome to Planet Catfish Howard.

I might struggle with Cory ID unless it's an easy one, but there are others here that can help!

Re: Using deep gravel and bacteria to control nitrogen

Thanks for your input Darrel. As someone that routinely kills java fern, it'd be great if you could let me know a few plants which could survive with low light and not planted in the substrate? Anubias do OK, but don't really seem to grow in my tanks, java fern is OK in some tanks but dies in others...

Re: Marc's fish room build

The eggs appear to be developing well now, I lost 3 more to fungus in the floating trap, although it could have been that they weren't fertilised I suppose. The male has sorted out a few other bad eggs on the glass, but I have 25+ remaining. Hopefully they will hatch in another 2-3 days, then I'll h...

Re: Marc's fish room build

The eggs are coming along well, the male has eaten 2 which went white, I've removed 3 fungused ones from the floating trap which contains the eggs that didn't stick to the glass. I can now see eyes, mouths and a spine inside the remaining ~40 eggs. I need to be so careful in that tank though, the En...

Re: Marc's fish room build

The first catfish spawn in the fish room happened this morning! :d The Sturisomatichthys festivus are still at it, I noticed them looking ready to spawn this morning when feeding and they are still going after laying the first egg at about 10am (it's 1.30pm now). I got three fish as juveniles from t...

Re: Do Loricariidae feed off parents?

This reminds me of my Sturisomatichthys festivus , I bought them as youngsters, and after a few weeks noticed them chewing at the backs of my Pseudohemiodon apithanos . I scared them off and thought nothing more of it. A few days after it happened again, after scaring them off they'd go straight bac...
