Heptapteridae and Pimelodidae from Suriname
Hi, next families... At Nickerie we caught Imparfinis pijpersi : http://www.l-welse.com/gallery/files/3/9/9/8/imparfinis_pijpersi_3952.jpg http://www.l-welse.com/gallery/files/3/9/9/8/imparfinis_pijpersi_3954.jpg This should be a safe ID. Re: Auchenepteridae from Suriname
Hi,
thanks, I didn't really consider Tatia brunnea as the picture in Mol's book look quite different.
However, I don't know too much about woodcats and guess that colour pattern can be quite variable...
They were all caught in Tapanahony river.

Auchenepteridae from Suriname
Hi, besides Tatia creutzbergi ( gyrina ) that I already know from past trips we also caught three more species. The first one should be Trachelyopterus galeatus , right ? http://www.l-welse.com/gallery/files/3/9/9/8/trachelyopterus_galeatus_3783.jpg http://www.l-welse.com/gallery/files/3/9/9/8/trach...

Re: From Tapanahony, Suriname
Hi, thanks again. So far I only kept Ituglanis amazonicus for a short time as there were different information about their compatibility as tank mates reaching from no problem at all to all other fish died for unknown reasons. So I gave them to a friend who keeps them in a separate tank. They have i...

Re: From Tapanahony, Suriname
Hi,
thanks a lot, this was also my assumption.
There are two species listed for Marowijne, O. flabelliferus & O. reinhardtii.
However, as I'm not at all into Trichomycteridae...
So I guess it will be carnivorous like Ituglanis ?

Re: Ancistrus ID
Hi,
this is Anicstrus macrophthalmus which comes from Venezuela and Columbia.
The amount of white spots can vary quite a lot in this species, sometimes they don't hava any or sometimes pattern is similar to L 184.

Re: Cory ID
Hi,
the oddball looks like Corydoras copei. Some years back I also saw in a local pet shop few of those mixed in between C. trilineatus.
However, I'm not absolutely sure if mine and yours actually were/are that species or just some natural variation of the other species.

Re: Corydoras "San Juan"? ID help and breeding hopes
Hi,
Corydoras sp. "San Juan" is a trade name frequently used by exporters from Iquitos, Peru.
Yes, it could be C. napoensis.

Re: Sturisoma panamense breeding
Hi, I have serious doubts about the given identity(....aureum propably), so if someone is in position to give a valid identification, feel free to say so. you are absolutely right to have doubts. I'm not sure if Sturisomatichthys panamensis ever made it into the trade (and all the west andine specie...

Re: New photo of Corydoras pavanelliae is not correctly ID'd.
Hi, The closest to this species is C133. I do agree on this ID, it's extremely close to the original picture in the DATZ magazine. However, I have to contradict to this statement: C. pavanelliae is a lineage 8 sub clade 4 (straight snouted) species C. pavanalliae is for sure no member of lineage 8. ...

Hi, 2x L201s ...and pickup next week a colony of L066s ... (otherwise we'd really love to get some L046s). ... I was thinking the L129s might be alright please don't keep different types of Hypancistrus in the same tank. They can and will crossbreed. I would rather separate the L 201 and the coming ...

Re: Reevaluation of Guyanancistrus
Hi Erik, as you can see from the key to the genus there are no new species with distinct spots on body and fins. The L numbers known for Guyanancistrus from the affected areas all have distinct spots. - L 221/L 223 from Rio Paru - L 317 from Rio Jari There are two more numbers: - L 56 from Rio Aragu...

Re: how would i tell if there hybrids?
Hi, most of those whiptails are considerd to be hybrids. But afaik it's not absolutely clear if the "pure" red whiptail is a wild form or rather an aquarium strain obtained by selection. Very often you will find hybrids with R./H. lanceolata which are red as juveniles but when growing the ...

Re: Hypostomus velhochico, new species, Loricariidae
Hi Eric, no, this should not be the same. L 284 does not have spots on the belly and a quite different body shape. In L 284 the distance of pectoral to pelvic fins is much bigger than the distance between the two pectoral fin insertions (in H. velhochico nearly same). The dorsal fin is also shorter....

Re: What type of whiptail catfish?
Hi,
ok, then this is not an argument in favour of H. parva but rather against.
The lower filament can also be missing / broken, but I guess it will be a different species then.
Without knowing their origin it's very difficult to ID whiptails.

Re: Corydoras ID please
Hi,
yes, it looks pretty much like Corydoras trilineatus even though the midlateral stripe usually is much more prominent. Is only one looking like this or has the complete group this untypical pattern ?!
Another option might be Corydoras copei.
