Re: Right now, on ITV4+1, River Monsters.
Guys, that's called entertainment for the masses. Nobody would watch a movie about a hard-working, honest people's day-to-day life, well, ok... maybe 0.01% of potential viewers. But the vast majority is fascinated by the day-to-day life of gangsters and mobsters (e.g., Scarface, Godfather, etc.). Th...

Re: Striped Raphael/Humbug -dying/gasping @ tank
Many thanks are due from me to MissBooBoo!!! In my two tanks, 55 gal and 120 gal, many/most fish in the tanks caught something with similar symptoms (after a major resident reshuffling in 7 tanks; not the first reshuffling but never had a problem like that before). And since MissBooBoo's thread was ...

I have found Interpet No.9 actually works very well for internal bacterial infections and does not seem to damage the filtration bacteria. It also does not bother my plecs, cories or clown loach.http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=1331&pf_id=5002 Rick, I cannot see the active ingredi...

Re: Your recomendations for treating Septicemia in redtails
Taksan, if you mean metronidazole, then it is an anti-parasitic medicine, AFAIK and this is the only way I used it. Perhaps, you know something else? I'd suggest to try the proven combo: Nitrofurazone + Furazolidone (approx. 2:1 proportion) - the brand names may differ but look for these two active ...

Inorganic solar cells are not nearly cheap enough to make yet to compete with hydroelectric power; their humongous cost of manufacturing and low efficiency are the two big obstacles on their implementation way (and insufficient lifetime of only 20-30 years; and use of toxic materials)... my long-standing question too I've just re-read the data sheets and examined the photos again: wyckoides starts to develop red color in his tail when still relatively small, perhaps 6" (?), but very small ones look quite similar, wyckii appears blacker/darker but that may be subject to the wate...

Good read, guys and gals, educational. To all but Jools in particular: I've done it a few times - went out and copied and pasted several fish pics off of an i-net search results and into a PlanetCatfish thread. Did not alter anything, just attached as is. See for example this: http://www.planetcatfi...

your tanks are bi-bi-utiful! but it is easy enough to slim her down a bit unless she turns out a bully or a whizzing hoarder at the feeding times... on the bottom we have some pangasius IDS are mid-water fish, not bottom, AFAIK; yours is still small and they grow very slowly IME Your "upside do...

I didn't either, none of my are fat at all but I've owned them only for 1/2 year... they are fed good, they eat good, every other day along side all other synos of mine, they grow ok too, from 2-3" to 4-5" in 1/2 year, so mine are not close to the 6" mark of that guy - he/she looks pr...

In summary, a licence may stop people buying fish without the tank to keep them in, but how do you evaluate that a person can then keep that tank running for the 30+ years the fish should live? Sadly, one answer may be sudden and random inspections by the State Dept of Pet Life and Game... what a s...

Good food for thought, Jools. For the argument's sake, who would stock the fish? Would you recommend that transshippers (relatively close to the LFSs in the delivery chain) should stock the "potentially too large" fish? Because, if I understand it right, fish are shipped from SA and Asia b...

Hey, thanks! Jonathan is still in a large debt over the folded monster-fish-rescue and tries to offset it little-by-little; also, he wants to convert his 1200 gal into a cichlid heaven, at least this is what I gather from his words. He is way into cichlids and not much (enough? by my standards) into...

They also had, in the marine section, orange faced batfish, who are just way too big for anything but public aquaria, if you can get to feed! Shame fish like these are still so readily available.
