Re: Live tips to save cory eggs
Interesting. When I get more eggs I'll try again. I'll choose my snails so that no matter their size, they will all be Ramshorn, with no bladder snails. Although I had only one hatch in the cup of eggs without snails, none the less it did hatch. This makes me wonder how many might have hatched if I ...

Re: L2464- is this a wild hybrid?
No you're not wrong. AFAICS, it appears that whoever invented this number simply took the numbers L024 and L064 and put them together, perhaps to insinuate that "L2464" is a hybrid between these two fishes. For the highest L-numbers (and LDA-numbers) listed at PC, look here: Cat-eLog > Num...

Re: Live tips to save cory eggs
Okay, here's my final report with these 40 eggs: In the end, only one egg hatched from the group without snails. I thought a couple more would hatch, but they didn't. And in the end, all the eggs disappeared in the group with snails. So either the eggs failed and the snails ate the bad eggs, or the ...

Hi Lello,
I am a little confused. It is my understanding that and () are not the same thing. I presume you spawned the former species and not the latter, is that correct?
Thank you. Cheers, Eric

I keep tetras with mine. Honestly, i dont expect that it matters much. These plecos are of sufficient size that I suspect many "average" community fish would be okay.

Re: Home-made pleco spawning caves
I'm hoping it's a hit with at least one of my pleco species. On the positive side, it may be an effective form of high-density housing, as long as territoriality isn't a problem. But as pointed out by TTA on the previous page of this thread, the drawback to these walls is you can't pull out just one...

Re: Home-made pleco spawning caves
Still waiting for the artist to fire them in his kiln. He charges me almost nothing to fire the caves for me, as long as I'm willing to wait for him to fill the kiln with other projects. Then he just wedges my caves in on the side and does everything at once. While I greatly appreciate the arrangeme...

Re: Bristlenose plec with bloated stomach
Edit: Oh no I feel bad because you took the time to draw that diagram! Please don't feel bad. That drawing took me all of 30 seconds to make, maybe not even that. ;-) If the only foods your fish was getting for food were algae wafers and courgette, then bloat shouldn't have been a problem. However,...

Thanks TTA for the extra info. If we can recreate the conditions of stress (without killing the ...

Re: Bristlenose plec with bloated stomach
First, let me say I'm sorry for your loss. It's never fun to lose a fish, especially when you don't know what's going on. The weird pine-cone spikes by the gills are odontodes. They are normal and were always present; they were just tucked away before. If you still have the fish and want to learn mo...

Re: Julii Corys dying within days
One a side note, unless I have been living under a rock and have missed something how would it be possible for 3 Corydoras to release enough toxin to pollute a 15 gallon tank? And on top of that wouldn't that water be so toxic that the tetra's would also die? I think there's some confusion going on...

Re: Bristlenose plec with bloated stomach
You're welcome. :-) Regarding your thermometer and heater, I'm thinking that your heater doesn't work at all, and your aquarium is simply at equilibrium with your household air temperature. First, how hot is the air in your house? In the winter, I heat my house to 68F (20C), and my unheated aquaria ...

Re: Bristlenose plec with bloated stomach
That's the only one I've ever had, I could buy another one just in case. I would not advise buying another pleco (or even other fish for the same tank) until you are confident there's no trouble. You wouldn't want to be wrong about the diagnosis (I.e., the fish really is sick) and introduce another...

Think about the poor fish! They're trying to have sex, and you're sitting there eating and watching them! Where's your sense of privacy and dignity?
Besides, better that than the other way around.

Although I wouldn't describe trilineatus as a "robust" species in terms of its ability to tolerate poor or stressful conditions, I believe it is not prone to self poison as are other species, like Corydoras sterbai . But that's my experience; others may have different experiences with tril...

Re: Live tips to save cory eggs
Thanks, Darrel, for those links. I definitely had some real Ramshorn snails in the cup, plus one or two shaped as seen above. As I think I said earlier, I was working under the assumption that they were all the same kind of snail, with the spiral shell snails being juvenile forms of the larger Ramsh...

Re: Mustard spot pleco (Panaqolus albomaculatus) project
Hi Teresa, I hate to disappoint you, but I didn't really have a plan when I introduced new foods, other than to introduce them in order of what I hoped would be preference. For the mustard spots, that was wood first, supplemented after a few days with algae wafers and "omnivore" wafers, a ...

Yes, she's very gravid right now, but no eggs were laid. That's why I thought, wrongly, that they were spawning when I awoke this morning to find them both in the cave. And it was not unexpected, as i did a big water change yesterday, hoping to trigger a spawn. But when I noticed that it was the mal...

Re: Live tips to save cory eggs
These do look like bladder snails. I was under the impression, perhaps mistakenly, that these were just young Ramshorn snails. But they probably aren't. I'll have to try again and next time select my snails more carefully. Up to now, I know very little about aquarium snails, other than I really don'...

BNs can be aggressive killers?
Hi all, In an old thread ( Re: Ancistrus sp. Albino X Albino Equals what? ), I reported my male ABN trapping a smaller female in his cave and killing her. Speculation was that he wanted to spawn with her and she wasn't cooperative, then he got aggressive. Sadly, it happened again, but this time the ...

Re: Live tips to save cory eggs
Okay, so I came home today and found a small clump of fresh cory eggs in my community tank. ...I picked out 40 eggs and divided them evenly into two plastic containers in 1.5 cm depth of tank water. To one cup I added five small RH snails. No airstones, relying only on diffusive oxygen exchange. Af...
