Yellow Elongated Woodcat

Image

Got this pic sent into the site from an English importer. Any ideas at all - I have not seen anything like this before. It appears to be a similar shape to Trachelyopterichthys taeniatus.

Yeah, could be. More by elimination than any other form of reasoning. Spindle thin HP by the looks of it.

Get a Synodontis or two. Most medium sized species will fit in with the JD all you need to give them is a cave each.

Cat-eLog V3?

All~ I have been redesigning the underlying database structure of the cat-elog. This is mainly because every time I changed something (like added a common name record, reassigned a species or just added a data item like max. size) I had to regenerate the entire HTML page set. Not big deal I hear you...

Doesn't look like a Baryancistrus. More like a Leporancathicus - can we get some shots of the mouth and a close up of the head. These fish are such a nighmare to ID.

Konig, One of the characterisitics that we look for in Baryancistrus is a flap of skin joining the last dorsal fin ray to the back of the fish. It looks like this: http://www.planetcatfish.com/jpg/loricariidae/baryancistrus_sp(l248)2.jpg I don't see this on the fish above hence my call on the...

Leporacanthicus galaxias . Featured as CoTM here . Nah, think it's an H. inspector. L. galaxias at this size shouldn't show spines on the pectorals. In addition the little bone "unicorn horn" that all Leporacanthicus spp. have slightly protruding from the top of their heads (about half wa...

König,

What makes you say that? The post at the top of the topic is clearly not a Baryancistrus sp. - look at the gap between the posterior of the dorsal and the leading adipose fin ray.

Re: Historical Biogeography of Hypostomus

It would be interesting to learn (and correlate with personal theories) the evolution of the reproductive behaviors within this group. My expectations (on the basis of behavior alone) would be allong these lines: Leaf-brooding (L. laevescula) derived from substrate spawning (Hemiloricaria) Lip-broo...

Yeah, that's your fish - AKA L1. I presume these fish are now being farm bred as they are showing up as small fish (< 2") at about the same price as gibbiceps.

Yann,

Follow the instructions above and you'll get the image. It's an annoying geocities thing that they employ to deter people uploading images for use on forums.
